Pap
Hitting -- 55
I love the guy but he's gotta be a 45 or less on hitting.

I believe Pap had a rather average year behind the plate. He was OK throwing runners out stealing, but he needs to be more consistent blocking breaking balls in the dirt. In fact our pitchers need him to step up that part of his game and get low and block more pitched. If so that will give our pitchers more confidence and we can become the dominant staff we all want.
If he hits 250 and becomes that top defensive catcher you project, we will be fine at catcher.
D first and the bat second in this position.

I might have been watching a different team last year, but Pap was actually really strong blocking balls in the dirt, especially for Lange.
Romero's bat was indispensable mid season last year. He came through with some really clutch hits. Outside of his arm his defense was middling most season and when it got bad, it was REAL bad.
I hope he gets healthy and contributes. After his "I only hit well when catching, not DH'ing" statement last year, I hope he matures a little bit and manages to realize success whenever the opportunity may be.

Chris Reid is going to be the utility man this season and will be one of first guys off the bench. What I like about Chris is the ability to bounce between 3B, 2B, and 1B although do to his makeup he’s better suited for the right side of the infield long term. At the plate Reid’s an extremely smart player who plays to his strengths disguising his lack of power at the plate, the ability he has to work counts and stay patient paid dividends as he was tied for 3rd on the team in on base percentage a season ago. In early March of 2016 it was Chris’s ability to stop the bleeding at 3B that brought stability to the infield thus allowing Robertson and Freeman to slide into their natural positions. Mainieri hasn't forgotten about this and he has a knack for giving opportunities to players he can trust, Reid will get major at bats even if it's not in a starting role.
I'd like to see Reid back at 3rd. He has a solid arm. His hitting needed work but I'm sure he worked on that in the offseason. All around good kid.
I coached him when he was in 6th grade so I guess I'm a bit bias....

I watched Reid closely in the fall and he is a solid player...there's a good reason he's at LSU. Having said that, Smith is on another level in the field and at the plate, too! He's a legit pro prospect at SS and has amazing range.

.287 BA and .417 OBA in 2016. I'll take that all day, everyday from a player like him.
Maybe his power numbers and XBH will improve as a Soph.

Scrimmage today or just open practice? I thought I read 4:30 but I'm here and they are just doing drills. Thanks for the response if anyone knows.

Ok. Obviously misread. Thanks.

Here's where I'm coming from:
We had 63 WPs
Fla had 34
Miss State had 49
A&M had 57
I realize pitchers get the blame on WPs, but we all know the catcher can prevent a lot of these. Pap and the back ups need to get better.

I wonder how many of those were attributed to Lange. His curve has to be a nightmare for most catchers to deal with.

Adam, is it fair to think Freeman has David Ecstein ceiling? (Not only this year but in terms of pro potential?) Or is that an unfair expectation?

I think it's unfair to put the expectation of 10 year MLB career, 2x all star, and World Series MVP on any college kid.

18. 11 for Poche, 6 for Gilbert and McKay each. No one else with more than 4.

I think his ceiling could compare to Johnny Giavotella, UNO ('06-'08) where he'll spend 3-4 years in a farm system and help back up 2nd for a team. Cole doesn't have his power at least not yet but is more of a threat on the base paths.
To ever project a college player becoming a full fledged starter especially in professional baseball is guesswork at most.

It's that time again!!
Adam I don't think I ever remember a scout giving a player an 80 rating. What's an example of a player with an 80 tool?? Just curious
