If this is similar to the challenge system we have in place now, the players will want to challenge often.

If I were a coach, no challenges until 2 strikes. Challenge a called strikeout as a batter and that's it.

Any part of the ball passing over any part of the plate, from the bottom of the kneecaps to the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, is a strike

this is the part most fans can't comprehend when watching a gam on TV

if the ball is right here at the very front of the plate, it's a strike

even if the catcher catches it here

problem is the vast majority of college games don't have that cute little square on the screen like MLB games do.

so they go by where the catcher catches it rather than where either crosses the plate.

Poor guy. Even the opposing team knew it was a horrible call and had to restrain him. That ump should be fired on the spot.

I'm going to bet that there are some particular SEC umpires that will not be assigned HP during the tournament.

My first thought too. Can’t make it too obvious.

These games will never end. The SEC umpires are nowhere near good enough for this. Introducing this in an SEC tourney where they already struggle to get the games in each day is going to go horribly for the SEC

What’s hilarious about this is the technology exists to have an instant call made by the system that would be 100% correct, yet no one is willing to use it, even though we all know it will eventually be implemented

I think it’s a great idea, every college sport is changing, headed to pro models. F the umps do your job right and accept the changes.

True, but I know a ball at the ankle or in the opposite batter's box is not a strike.

It is when our batters swing at both consistently

We'll need 3 per inning.

Even the MLB review system is flawed because it judges pitches at the midpoint of homeplate so a pitch that touches the strike zone at the front of the plate can be wrongly overturned on review if it moved out of the zone by the midpoint

Honestly I’d probably have a “no challenge unless you have two strikes and there’s a runner in scoring position” rule or something like that.

Which you tend to do when it's being called a strike.

The problem with getting 3 challenges to ball/strike calls by SEC umps is every team will be out of challenges by the end of the first inning..

The opposite is often true of college umps. They regularly call strikes based on where the catcher receives the ball behind the plate with no regard for where it was when it arrived. They also fall for frames all the fricking time.

Pitchers know this and will use curves and sliders that start well outside and end “in the zone” behind the batter knowing they will get a lot of them incorrectly called their way.
