input from any of the coaches?
Obviously not Mulkey. This is the opposite of what she wants. She wants to practice there. She wants a basketball arena that can host concerts from time to time. Of course she didn’t say how she expects it to be paid for. I know she is the consummate fundraiser but even she has limits.

Yep and in 10 years when the developer defaults on the loan LSU can buy it for $100 million.

it's probably the only way something decent gets

And that's exactly what LSU will get. A decent area in a poor location being built with LSU basketball as an afterthought that just need to be squeezed into it.

New arena will be in the area of $350MM - $400MM.

Will this include improving parking, traffic for all the non-LSU events, and to add safer pedestrian/student crossing over these streets with increased traffic?

I would have preferred going to something not as big and be more LSU focused, but at least a couple of years in Texas seems comfortable with this type of set up.

There is some waaay bigger picture thinking going on here involved with this than lsu has ever had.

Can’t wait for this to become a reality.

Game changer.

Jesus why don’t you wait for the plans to be announced first. Do you really think LSU will have zero input? They wouldn’t be agreeing to any of this if they can’t get what they want for the basketball programs.

Some of you are serious suckers. When people talk about the 'bad deals' Louisiana 'leadership' gets us into and wonder how could they ever do such a thing, well, this is it, and many of you are cheering for it. This is a LOT bigger deal for the private developer than LSU, but yeah, just go ahead and support that...

It sounds like LSU's envisioning this to be more than just an arena so I'm sure you can expect some type of road & streetscape improvements.

quote:

LSU Associate AD/Chief Brand Officer Cody Worsham said that the university “envisions the arena as the anchor of a mixed-use development that could include restaurants, a hotel and other businesses.” The Tiger Athletic Foundation has “begun soliciting proposals from developers to finance and build the new venue.”

LINK

It'd be cool if they could somehow find a way to incorporate Alex Box into this entertainment district. Maybe something similar to the Battery in Atlanta but smaller. You could have the new arena anchor on the south and Alex Box anchor on the north. Then incorporate a hotel and bars/restaurants throughout. Then nuke Tigerland

Enhance this side of Alex Box, convert the parking lot into a lawn with amenities, then build the majority of the entertainment district + new arena on the other side of Gourrier where the driving range currently sits.

This sounds like the same logistical setup that Mulkey left Baylor over.

So yeah, coach’s office moved to PMAC and you practice there. But now your game venue is even further away and it sure as shite ain’t gonna be a “made for basketball” arena. As someone said, it sounds like a concert hall that you’ll wheel basketball goals into. It may not be much better a basketball atmosphere than the PMAC and maybe worse.

When Wade was here he complained about the offices being separate from the game venue and Mulkey feels the same way judging by the Baylor situation.

Sounds like as far as LSU basketball and what our coaches want, which is all the frick I care about, this is a step backward, not forward.

*Not sure why this thread is anchored since it is discussing an important issue.

I’d bet anything that Mulkey will never coach a game in this arena. She’ll be long gone and retired within 5 years.

Do you view the Smoothie King Center in that way?

Do you view any NBA arena in that way? Do you think they build these palaces as concert halls that are bad for basketball? Seriously?

You people, I swear.

If our basketball programs can raise $400 million then I am sure TAF would foot the bill and give our coaches everything they want and exactly where they want it.

But in the real world, LSU has limited resources and increasing demand for those resources (NIL chief among them), which means something has to be sacrificed. In this proposal it’s daily access to the competition arena.

Texas has two tournament bound basketball programs including the No. 6 women’s basketball program. It does not appear that daily access to the competition arena is a necessity for them to be a championship level program.

What part of “LSU doesn’t have the money to fund a new arena” don’t you understand?

Some of you are living in a fantasy land when it comes to this. This is one of the better offers LSU and Baton Rouge could receive.

No, Mulkey didn't want the new Baylor arena built off campus. This is going to be on campus. Soooo not at all the same.

Moscona talked about it again this morning. Was trying to find a clip of the interview from yesterday's show.

AFR

Found it. Start at the 2:17 mark.
