Maybe he will come back next year with his .299 BA, because we still need a 1st baseman

Larson is a solid hitter but with no power and not even being an every day player we really arent missing him much.
He’s got the strength and size to hit 15+ HR, but his swing doesn’t lend itself to power unless it’s a breaking ball low and in.

Larson is a solid player, but a guy putting up an .881 OPS with the majority of your production coming in non-conference is really not that special. Add in that he’s not a plus defender and you see why he’s moved into more of a situational role at Texas

Yeah, Larson also gets the benefit of being a situational platoon hitter that is always rested and pretty much exclusively put in advantageous positions. Pinch hitting against a RHP, being pulled when a LHP comes into the game, getting a few days off, playing 6 innings in a game because he can’t play defense.
It’s pretty dumb to compare his numbers to someone who plays every day, in conference.

Jay should’ve promised him the 1B position this year and then an outfield spot next year

No, but when Stanfield decided to stay, that's what made his decision. Can't blame him though. No crying over spilled milk though. Let's move on.

He wanted to play OF this season, which is why he transferred to Texas
Keep in mind this is his draft year and he was probably thinking about that

He would’ve been a great first baseman this year

He has 91 plate appearances all year. He's basically become a platoon DH for them. He has zero XBHs and 1 RBI in SEC play
This! Would have been great to keep but his options were going to be limited in this outfield.

Somebody could’ve played 1st

You are correct, but he's been playing 1B over there as well.
Does LSU need a First Baseman? Asking for a friend...

Could he play second or third?

For what it's worth, his SEC stats are slightly better than Mason Braun:
Larson
PA - 40
BA -.296
OB% - .525
OPS - .821
Braun
PA -41
BA -.273
OB% - .415
OPS - .839

The only needle movers would be Mikey Ryan, who could be playing 2B, and Brady Neal, who is currently one of the best hitters in the SEC. Ashton Larson is not an upgrade

I would have loved for him to have stayed and competed for first base.
I have no idea if that was offered to him or not.
