As if Stanfield wasn’t a key player in a fricking championship run. Good Lord the number of hindsight heroes here is really something.

Stanfield played him under the table head to head last year. Larson was coming off an injury, so he started the season poorly and was on the bench for a reason. He was behind Stanfield, Curiel, Pearson and Brown in the outfield because of his struggles. All of the infield spots were locked down, as well.

We all wish he was here right now, me included. But it sounds like he wasn’t interested in the opportunity here at first base, even though it’s where he’s ended up at Texas, as well.

The only needle movers would be Mikey Ryan, who could be playing 2B, and Brady Neal, who is currently one of the best hitters in the SEC. Ashton Larson is not an upgrade

To have Neal this year, we would have had to carry him last year, when he sucked worse than when he was here. His production this year doesn’t suddenly make moving on from him last year the wrong move, especially since he isn’t playing Catcher at Bama anymore.

He hasn’t been great on defense either.

I don't know. I haven't checked in a few weeks, but he was having a pretty bad defensive season in the ACC.

Larson should be playing 1st.

Larson is a spot player at Texas. A platoon hitter.
Conference average is 296, he got 8 singles in 27 ABs. No extra base hits and 1 rbi. He started 11 conf games and played in 15.

I can’t see that he’d have been much of a difference maker.

No way he’s worse than the 2B lsu has used this year

I know that range and scorers change things, but he's got a worse fielding percentage than Dardar.

Ryan has a .939 Fielding % with 7 errors in 115 chances.

Dardar has a .944 Fielding % with 4 errors in 71 chances.

Yeah he’s not a very good defender but he can swing it a little bit. Our 2nd basemen this year have done neither

Larson is a solid hitter but with no power

I think LSU could use a few of those right now in place of loud “Big Popups”

The question someone should ask Jay is, if he knew this in the offseason why did he keep Stanfield instead of Larson, dammit!

How do you think Dardar would do at SS?

Has he not been playing second? He was listed as a second basemen on their website at one point. Looking at their lineups in April (on twitter) it appears he's been playing SS. It actually appears he's been playing SS in every game this season. My mistake there.

Regardless, I don't think Jay pushed him out. I'm pretty sure it's been reported that he wanted to keep him.

So I will change my answer - yes, I would have liked Mikey Ryan

We don't win a national title last year without Hernandez. We don't sign Hernandez with Neal still on the roster. I think that helps all of us sleep at night
