Umm, what? Based on 2 games? And what did you see that he did so amazing besides the over the rail dugout catch?

Yes just off 2 games. The way he receives balls foremost, plus his footwork on bad throws, stretching ability, and ability to pick balls. He showed all of that in 2 games.

People that have seen him at practice say the same thing & it checks out. He is way more advanced than anything LSU has had there in 2 decades.

Even the best 1B won’t pick every ball.

Have you seen Morgan play OF? He’s pretty good at it.
No, I haven't.

When did you see him play in the outfield?

The practices and scrimmages I attended he never even shagged fly balls in the outfield. He was always practicing taking ground balls and throws at first base.

In my opinion you can’t really play two sports at a power 5 school in modern collegiate athletics.

Chad Jones TYFYS
Jones is actually a good example of the other poster’s point as well. He was an OF/hitting prospect that could never get his bat going.

It's pretty obvious he's a HUGE Helmers fan, so he'll say anything to convince us that he's our best option at 1B

Do yourselves a big favor and just expect the unexpected with Paul's lineups. He's seemingly really unsure about who should be playing and where. It not only scares me that he's not sure, but it also leads me to believe that not enough guys have really showed enough to justify being in the lineup. I hope it all works itself out but Hellmers was a big whiff that had a big hand in a loss already.

Brother Martin actually played him in the OF a good bit. It might surprise you, but he was not very good at 1B in high school.

I'd like to see this tonight but it'll probably be completely different

C - Milazzo
1B - Morgan
2B - Doughty
SS - Cranford/Arnold
3B - Arnold/Cranford
LF - Beloso
CF- Hampton
RF - Crews
DH - Bianco, Dugas, Drost

I'm surprised Cranford wasn't in the opening day lineup and more surprised when CPM announced that SS would be between Arnold and Bianco. Cranford was not flashy last year but he was solid.

I'm excited to see what Drost can do.

Cranford must be getting the Chris Reid treatment.

Something is up when Cranford is not even mentioned.... sad to see a solid defender not get a shot at all...

Not to mention, his bat was starting to come alive when the season ended last year.

I am lucky enough to have coached two players in this freshman class and coach against a few others in summer ball as well as high school in Louisiana. Safford and Drost are the two dark horses, I have seen both of these guys thrive and would love to see them get a chance at starting maybe a midweek game and get them comfortable. They are the definition of players with swag

Morgan to CF is probably the right move with Gio out.

Morgan has been fantastic at 1B so far. No reason to move him.

They should just have Safford in CF, Arnold at SS, and Cranford/Bianco at 3B. Or hell, even Cranford at SS and Arnold at 3B.

I feel like cranford is the eventual shortstop if none of these other guys can give us anything at the plate. But they are gonna try these other options first.

just really confused on the whole bianco at SS... and why did Arnold sit when he was on fire the first game...IF gio would not have got hurt i don't believe he would have got the shot he did in the 2nd game.. which he proved himself again. but we left others in that did ZERO at the plate all weekend ..... really hope gio is back quick. hope arnold keeps getting a shot in the game. morgan def has no confidence issue....CREWS IS LIVING UP TO THE HYPE FOR SURE

I’m squarely in the “there’s probably more to the Cranford story” camp. Even if you think Bianco’s bat is going to play I can’t figure out why SS is the place you try to make it happen.

Would everyone be okay with our slash line looking like this after 3 games if it meant we were 3-0?

.198/.282/.378

This is a ranked SEC team that played a Sunbelt team all three games. They won game 2 on a 9th inning go ahead HR and game 3 in extra innings.

ETA: Vandy just had a guy foul a ball off his face. Looked painful.

Morgan missed 2 scoops from Hellmers this weekend. And one was a long hop that wasn’t that tough to handle. Might need to pump the brakes on best defensive 1B at LSU ever.

Dont see that too often. A youth player in town took a line drive to his jaw this weekend. The USSSA bats are just too hot. I know we all like seeing our 11 year olds hit it 250, but this is dangerous.
