re: Anybody else losing interest in football as a sport?

The injuries make it tough, especially in the NFL with the limited rosters and indispensability of good QBs. Seems like the good teams are the lucky teams when it comes to injuries. Bills are probably a Super Bowl favorite and are just one torn Josh Allen ACL from missing the playoffs.

Definitely with college football as a whole, I know things change but this new era of NIL and gambling being shoved down our throats just doesn’t sit right with me. I still watch LSU but other games during the day are becoming background noise while doing other things around the house.

Ironically, I’ve found myself becoming more interested in the NFL the last few years. I look forward to other games that the Saints aren’t playing in. I once felt that way for college football, but that’s fading pretty quickly.

I’ve been in this slow slide for the past several years.

I stopped caring about the NFL about ten years ago (not related to the Kapernick saga). All of the teams just started to seem the same and the games are heavily commoditized with the commercials and focus on fantasy and gambling.

NIL and unlimited free agency have pretty much gotten me to the same place with CFB. There was a time when I could tell you the name of almost every dude on LSU’s roster if you gave me a jersey number…now I can probably only do that for maybe five guys.

I watched some of LSU’s season opener but missed the last two and felt absolutely nothing. We don’t have a live TV subscription because it was just for football and feels like lighting money on fire. I used Disney+ to watch 10 minutes of the fighting JordynHudsons stomp on a bunch of motionless Clemson Tiger figurines before turning it off and lamenting the fact that I’ll never get that time back.

And look, I’m not trying to put down football. The “product” is still attractive and I get why people still watch. I just don’t feel like I need to consume it much anymore.

Every other play results in a flag. You can view these 3.5-5 hour games every day now, but you’ll need Prime, Paramount, and probably a day pass for Sling when your P4 team plays a directional school.

If you choose to attend in person, be ready for multiple shitshows and hefty ticket prices with fees, since you can’t buy at a physical box office these days.

The product isn’t as good. When I was a kid, MNF was a staple. Nowadays, I can’t even tell if it’s Monday, Thursday, Black Friday, or some Wednesday game in Brazil.

The powers that be have made it clear they don’t care about the fans, and I doubt most of players really care about anything other than a contract extension, but we still gobble it up.
