I think the main issue for O was that he wanted Aranda to be more aggressive.

Pelini will give him that, but Pelin's former defenses at LSU got shredded at times.

He was a fricking horrible defensive coordinator, so over rated the talent made him look better than what he was. His schemes were shite we see in middle school football

Third and Chavez traumatized me. I began to fear the end of games. That was not the case with Aranda defenses. He gave up more points than we wanted but we didn't take bad beats because of 4th quarter meltdowns.

As for Pelini-I do not want to bring up the 2007 Kentucky and Arkansas game defensive meltdowns because that would be rude. And I hate to be rude.

You're out of your mind. Aranda's defenses were ranked 10th, 12th, 25th and 31st. That's an average ranking of 19.5. LSU defenses weren't better under Miles because of John Chavis. They were better for the same reason Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin are in the top 5 every year. Because the best thing for your defense is a boring ball-control run-based offense that keeps your defense off the field.

I love Dave, always will. Hell of a coach and strictly business.

But I look forward to Bo’s return. Having a big/nasty defensive line with a bad attitude is fun to watch.

There were times when I wish he was a little more aggressive particularly on 3rd down, but when shite hit the fan they were unreal. That string of games from Bama to Georgia to Clemson was unreal. I got to personally most all Of those and you felt like all games were over at halftime. His defensive units almost always got better during the season and during the games, (but for injuries) We always owe him.

That said, Bo Pelini is a home run hire. (Per Gene Chizik today too) He knows the school and the system, great recruiter, runs an attacking style defense that in many ways may match up better with this new high octane offense.

Also stop this bullshite about problems between Bebe and Aranda. That’s just garbage. They are like brothers

Do you judge Bo by Arky and UK losses?
That 2007 D was helped by an offense that played keep away instead of score at will 2019.

i think this is backwards

these neo-offenses are designed to neuter aggression. aggression leaves space for the offense to work, basically

So..... Who else here thanked God our offense pulled their sh*t together against Bama when it got to one score last year. This was close to being the very bad beats you mention here. (add in Ole Miss 2nd half and ?) Aranda in my opinion was a serviceable DC. Was he the best I have ever seen here? No not even close. His schemes were supposed to set us apart but what I saw was not aggressive enough with the athletes he had ( particularly at LB and DB) However I give him credit last year. He adjusted to an offense that scored as quickly as we did. Which was almost the exact opposite of what he has seen previously. Hats off after Ole Miss.

Aranda’s D was very leaky at times.

I’ll never forget the guy sitting with O’s cousin a few seats over screaming about firing Aranda “tonight.”

Aranda calls his scheme in a preventative way. Tried to limit big plays to give opponents the chance to stall within the drive. It worked a lot, and didn’t work almost as much. Still love the guy; he just had a different philosophy.

2017 Mullen/Fitz 37-7 was probably Aranda's worst defensive game in his career

We are starting Andre Anthony and Travez Moore at DE right now and Pelini is all about bringing pressure with 4. Do you think either of those guys are in the two deep on any of the ‘05-‘07 DLs?

We don’t have elite edge rushers unless our true freshmen are ready. It’s going to be the greatest development coaching job of all time if Andre Anthony is an all SEC team player.
