Not as many as I wanted, easier to bash Les Miles and catch them

A lot of folks seem to feel you have to put down Aranda to be excited about Pelini. Dave Aranda was money when it mattered and would still be at LSU if he wanted to be. Bo Pelini is going to be a great fit with Coach O

only concern is Pelini not having those thumpers in there that he needs to get the guys juiced

Jacob Phillips would’ve been THE DUDE this year

Aranda had a bend don’t break defense. Gave ups some real estate until the red zone. His defenses where good at not giving up the long touchdowns and very good at red zone defense.

Who else shutdown Clemson like that?
Made 3 of the supposed top 4 QB's in the nation look like chumps, all in a row.

Hurts

lol i agree with your sentiment (that aranda was excellent down the stretch) but there are exactly zero humans on planet earth who think fromm was one of the 4 best QBs in the nation last year

That said, Bo Pelini is a home run hire. (Per Gene Chizik today too) He knows the school and the system, great recruiter, runs an attacking style defense that in many ways may match up better with this new high octane offense.

Agreed. Aranda is a great defensive coach and wouldn’t surprise me in the least to have Baylor competing for a long time. Pelini is a much better fit for LSU though. Yeah he is going to get beat sometimes for being overly aggressive but he is also going to cause a lot more havoc than Aranda did.

Lawrence only after Aranda admitted that he made it too complicated on the defense at 1st and then simplified things. That seems to be the biggest issue while he was here, but that being said I believe he did a very good job.

Bo’s defense was good when he was here before. Bet they cover the backside and don’t let Ole Piss QB look like a Heisman candidate

in 07, we let a horrible Ole Miss team (0-8 SEC, one of the worst offenses in D1) hang around in that game. Brent Schaeffer did most of the damage, with 200 yds passing and 94 rushing. both were his season and maybe career highs.

all that to say, games like that happen. even to the great Bo Pelini.

Sacks and TFLs. those kill drives and have been diminished under Aranda. If Bo can get those numbers back up, these Ds will be nasty with the DBs shutting down the passing game.

Been saying this forever. Get ready for the Aranda lemmings who think finishing EIGHT in the SEC defensively last year is acceptable!!

Aranda seemed to be really great at adjustments, but I agree sometimes it was just bizarre how clueless the defense looked: see the Northwestern State touchdown pass with no defenders within 20 yards of the receiver

Except the last 5 games of the season

Pretty quite then.

Aranda is a good coach.

9/10 of our wins in 2018 were because the defense was dominant.

I love the Pellini hire. But there was nothing wrong with the Aranda defense overall. Bend but don’t break was the philosophy and it served us well last season.

It’s hard to be super aggressive when your offense scores in three minutes every drive. I will enjoy being able to be super aggressive on defense again.

the scheme was fine, but it was too heavily dependent on personnel.

There is no substitute for talent on defense.

You need guys who can make plays, and I challenege You to find an elite Defense without elite players.

Aranda’s biggest issue was how wildly inconsistent our edge rushers were after 2016.

2016 Key was Elite. 2017 Key not so much. 2018 Chaisson got hurt and out backups combines for like 2 sack in 11 games.

2019 Chaisson wasn’t getting to the QB
2 sacks in the first 11 games and we allowed 23.5 PPG
4.5 sacks in the last 4 and we allowed 17.5 while playing three top 10 teams.
