From Saturday Down South

quote:

"Dave Aranda is gone, but that's probably the best for both parties."

quote:

"I think you saw a few times where Dave's scheme was so intricate it was overwhelming the players, especially if they had some depth issues or were banged up. Bo Pelini is going to live nicely with Ed."

Say this one in your best Saban voice and add “aight” to the end. . .

I felt it was clear that Orgeron and Aranda butted heads on how to run the defense and Oregeron was ready to get his own guy in.

Do I get to chew out a reporter after that?

Aranda more than earned his money and respect over the last 4 games of the season.

This defense will be very good in 2020. We lack a little depth and the LBs are up in the air, but Pelini will get these guys fired up and ready to go. It will be different than an Aranda defense, but the intensity will be off the charts.

My only concern is Pelini not having those thumpers in there that he needs to get the guys juiced.

I keep saying this, With the freakish athletes we have and the aggressive play calling from Bo, we may be dangerous once again

Bo’s defense was good when he was here before. Bet they cover the backside and don’t let Ole Piss QB look like a Heisman candidate

Aranda’s D was very leaky at times.

There were only a few games in his tenure here where you could safely say the defense dominated from start to finish

Though those tended to be the bigger games.

Dave experimented a lot but when the lights were on we usually played pretty well

I don’t recall our D ever being dominant under Aranda? He was a Solid DC but he never lived up to the “Defensive Guru” Hype that people always talked about.

Aranda was awesome, glad he has a chance to run his own show. Toss the keys to Pelini and he ain't gonna crash the car.

The end of season run last year once he had the bodies he wanted(minus Divinity save Clemson) we were as dominant as you could ask with the offense scoring so much and so quickly. They thoroughly dominated TAM, UGA, Okla and Clemson. He earned his money

Dan Mullen usually had Aranda’s number. Going to be interesting to see how Bo performs against Mullen

Aranda was better than anyone when it mattered most. That’s all I care about.

Who else shutdown Clemson like that? It was insane. Etienne didn’t even get close to 100 yards. Lawrence had 0 passing TDs.. they were like 1 for 11 or so on third down conversion.

Also the D against OU was super impressive. I don’t care if ole miss and vandy score a ton of points in blowout wins.

Even what LSU did against A&M was incredible.. as well as UGA, don’t care how bad their QB was. Getting Delpit out of the game and then healed up properly helped a ton as well. He was a huge liability playing hurt IMO.

Bo was quoted last week as saying " if we stay healthy, we will be hard to handle". And this assessment after he has had very little on the filed coaching time with the D.

Yeah, Aranda was money vs A&M, UGA, OU, and Clemson. He dominated those games. The rest of the season not so much

Let’s be fair here. Both Aranda and Pelini had games where the D sucked. I think it’s just a testament to our athletes and coaching that we’ve been able to keep those games to a minimum over the last 20 or so years
