I think with a more effective passing game and a better coordinated offense he would have looked more impressive.

He has better speed than most give him credit for IMO. He isn't a burner but he can break off some long runs and he has the quickness to get those 8-15 yard bursts if he gets a crease.

Amazingly, he says Stevan exhibits more moves, wiggle, and bettr hands than many draft pundits thought he had...

I can't count how many times I said, last season, "Thank G-d for Stevan Ridley...."

Always had good footwork, which is a lot of why I believed he would turn into at least a serviceable NFL back at worst.

According to a Patriots writer for the team's website,SR appears to be making a strong run not only for significant pt as a rookie but also the team's long term lead back....stay tuned. Amazingly, he says Stevan exhibits more moves, wiggle, and bettr hands than many draft pundits thought he had...

Somewhere, SFP cringes in disbelief.

Really? I was always impressed by his vision and moves in the holes. Seemed like he was almost never the guy that left me thinking, "dang, if he had only cut that way instead, he'd have had 10 more yards!"

I'm mostly surprised that his lack of top end speed hasn't limited him more. I always figured he had plenty of ability to be a role-player RB in the pros, but was not confident he had the speed to be a feature back. Congrats to Stevan, home town boy made good! GEAUX TIGER!!! (and GEAUX SAINT!!!)

Yes, quite serious. I never noticed much wiggle while at LSU and he didn't get enough receptions for him to be considered a good pass catcher. Seems like a very reliable one-cut power back.

He is a one-cut power back and his one cut is sudden and very good. He does not wiggle. While he's not elite in any area, his north/south style is perfectly suited for the NFL.

I played against ridley all through high school in football basketball and baseball.

I have a friend that played football against him as well. My buddy played some RB, TE, and LB. He said he squared up to hit Ridley and he just killed my friend. Hardest he had ever been hit

Had there not been 8-9 guys in the box every play you would have seen a lot more of it. I remember him doing quite a bit of it myself but when you are getting hit in the whole and not in the secondary there is no where to wiggle yet.

Hope our line has improved because loosing SR might set us back a bit in the running game. Could all be a wash on the running game unless our passing game is better.

talk to me after the season and we can discuss who's right or wrong. I'll be around one way or another.

I am not going to shite on this thread but I'll say this; running it down the throats of JAX and TB 3rd string defense means very little. If he can do that against NYJ or Pitt or Baltimore when it matters, then come and shove it in my face. Until then you are just a ranter for putting that much stock into a preseason game.

The substance of this thread...Ridley's performance and prospects, came from a wrietr for the Patriots website, not any ranter.

maybe they'll give him 1st team snaps this week then and not be the 4th RB into the game like he has been.

Ridley had a really crazy ability to 'juke vertically'. If that makes sense. Seems like every time he cut he gained 2 yards.
