If you're a pitching coach for an opposing team, Jones shouldn't see a fastball until next season.

But think of the talking point surrounding how poorly pitching has been this season league-wide. And they are only hitting .243?

No they're not. .243 is your nutball stat about taking away Crews and White. BTW, if you take away the other seven guys LSU is hitting .418 as a team.

That may be true, but he still got on base 7 out of 15 times this weekend and slugged .500. LSU can certainly survive with that level of production.

He did not slug .500. He got 2 hits and they were both singles. He slugged .167 this weekend.

He also struck out looking with the bases loaded and nobody out. Grounded out to 3rd with the bases loaded and 2 out. Flied out in the top of the 8th following a Morgan leadoff walk.

You can’t have your 3 hole go 0/3 with runners on base and not even advance a single runner. He had 2 chances to blow that game wide open, which is exactly why he’s hitting 3 hole.

I would say most teams in the country wouldn’t be able to survive their 3 hole stranding 7 players on base in one game.

I propose Morgan to leadoff. Then you can go with Dugas, Crews, White or Crews, White,

What problem do you think this will solve? Dugas has a higher OBP than Morgan. That's what you want in a leadoff - take lots of pitches and get on base a lot. Dugas is second best on the team, and I don't think Crews leading off is the right answer. But if you ARE taking Dugas out of leadoff, it has to be for Crews.

Big4 you’re crazy. There won’t be any pressure or heat on CJJ for years, and rightfully so. He is going to continue to produce high quality teams. Name a better coach that can continually dominate the SEC.

3 Months ago LSU had a 2nd' team that could win small conferences.

I ridiculed this at the time.

If only Dylan Crews hasn’t had a whole career of being great to let you know that this is more than likely a one off weekend for him.

So the batting average went down when we started playing all top 25 teams?

Cool.

Since JT was moved to the middle of the order a couple weeks ago his average has dropped almost 60 points (.325-267), Beloso’s has dropped over 50 points and Jobert has become non existent. Jones has also become less of a factor and seeing fewer pitches to hit. Ya’ll laugh when I talk about lineup construction and pitch diet but this kind of slippage is what I mean.

He was referencing Dugas, not Crews

These are strictly in-conference stats. These numbers were better a few weeks ago after playing better teams then they have recently.

Yeah the bats were ice cold this weekend. A lot of walks last weekend hid a few struggles there too.

Here is my thoughts that don’t mean anything at all.

The team went into SEC play fired up because they had a gauntlet of a schedule to start. Some guys may have played over their heads. They get through the beginning and exhale/get wore down by having to be on their A game for 4-5 straight weekends and they are fighting through it now and are still winning more than losing while not playing their best.

With that said, LSU baseball teams have always stepped their game up when school ended and all they have to do is concentrate on baseball. I expect this team to do the same.

A fair comparison is to take out the best two hitters for every sec team and compare to LSU without crews and white.

look i'm not married to this, but the first glance at Florida and Vandy

Jac Cag (leads league in total bases/HR) would not be included in Florida's top 2 hitters.

Enrique Bradfield(top 5 in BB/OBP/Runs/SB) would not be included in Vandy's top 2.

May be a dumb question but can a DH become a fielder if he we sub players?

If Milazzo started at C and Travinski at DH, could Travinski then catch if we PH for Milazzo?

Yes. Travinksi would then sub in for the pinch hitter defensively. This 'kills' the DH in the lineup for the rest of the game. But if you are talking about the PHr staying in the game after he bats, no. The PHr would have to assume a defensive position. You can't swap DHs mid game if the original DH enters the game defensively. You CAN swap DHs in batting only, but once a DH enters defensively, the DH is done.

these discussions on baseball stats are my favorite part of TD and where baseball knowledge shines (most of the time)

I think people are overrating batting averages to some extent.

Sec batting averages and runs scored
Vandy 1st/2nd
Ky 2/T 5th
LSU 3rd/1st .....only 23games
Georgia 4th/11th
A&M 5th/T5th
Tenn 6th/8th
SC 7th/3rd ....,.only 23 games

Obviously getting hits is important, but there is more to scoring runs than just your batting average. The bottom line is to score runs.
