An issue no one is talking about

We went the last 4-5 weeks talking about how Sam was playing so much better from the pocket and how the offense was clicking.
Then his Hamstring gets healthy and what do our coaches do?
They call QB Draw and designed QB runs all game long. We would be driving doing one thing and then choose to run Sam. They weren’t drive killers, but many times put us behind the sticks.
Then imo it puts Leavitt into a different mindset. He turned back into the frantic runner that he was earlier in the year.

I think they started calling those designed runs when he wasn’t staying in the pocket. Literally biggest issue with the offense is he got healthy again.

I wish he’d reconsider his decision to stay.
He’s never going to change.

He clearly regressed this game, IDGAF about stats, he was back to single read and tuck. Horrible sacks instead of throwing it away and zero awareness of wide open receivers (who in all fairness, other than Harris or Green, are likely drop it).
Once again, don’t help that his OL was once again caving in up the middle a lot, and they consistently got pressure with 4 rushers vs 5 OL and usually Jones as well.

Plus Jones was running well.
Despite all of that, stalling in the red zone is the main issue.

Terrible oline that can’t get the run game going makes us have to resort to more QB runs.

Maybe Sam just looked better and was able to make plays without running because we were playing meh competition.

How do you know they called that play???? Sam takes off when he feels the pressure and our O line sucks arse. Bad O line and a impatient QB are killing the play calling.

Leavitt can make athletic throws and has an arm.
Leavitt cannot read a defense. He doesn’t have that natural read ability.

Its easy to bash the quarterback and Sam is a 100% improvement over Nussmeier. But..... despite the statistics, last night when he was scrambling around in the backfield I felt that we have gone from Sam bailing from the pocket and running downhill too soon, to not taking off on a run and instead having to give up yardage scrambling around in the backfield. It seems like Sam is in control until the snap and then things start to move to fast for him. He doesn't make a quick scan at the snap to determine pass, quarterback run or throw ball away.

I don't know that I agree. It looked like he had happy feet back there even when the pocket was clean.
Maybe their DBs were just playing well.
I think it's pretty clear that Sam is very good. But he was pretty jittery early. He still moved the ball really well.
I just have to assume that this is poor coaching in the red zone. But Lane has said that they don't practice that much during the week, so I think we can expect more of the same against Texas and Tenn. They have really good defenses.

Sam is like most QB’s under constant pressure, they struggle. At least he can run. I don’t think he or LSU will beat the top competition until the Oline improves.

Sam has a ton of passes blocked.

At first I thought the same thing, but we moved the ball last night. We had 27 first downs. What changed was his decision making in the red zone and in spots he looked too ready to try in get out of trouble by scrambling. He really shot himself in the foot with his decision making.

Yeah it’s called Oline issues. Kiffen will be able to focus more on the Oline during the offseason as they will know what they returning and what they need to move forward not to mention having his entire offensive coaching staff already here. The Oline is the key to all of the other offensive issues they are having. I believe they will get it fixed. I’ll also ride with a QB I. His second year with Kiffen and an entire offseason to work with his receivers.

The O line is poor, but it did not stop us from moving the ball or finishing drives.

My biggest issue was moving the ball in the air between the 20s and then all the sudden trying to be some smash mouth running team in the red zone. Just awful. Season is over.

The defensive backs for bama we’re playing deep which if LSU had any kind of offensive line would have opened up holes for our running game to explode.. no offensive line, no running game gives the defense a better edge over any offense especially when you can rush 3 defensive linemen who put alot of pressure on your QB.. adding another defensive player back in pass defense is a bonus…until they ever fix or improve the offensive line it won’t get any better not this year for sure..
