Anything you can do to give a defense a headache you do it. A pissed off defense is one your offense will love.

no he’s 3rd after this year. Still the best Arm BR has ever seen.

An offense is always unlocked by the downfield passing game. Always. That takes more skill and intelligence than any other QB skill. Any big time HS athlete can come in and scramble.

I think there’s a stigma attached to “dual threat” QBs, with a lot of fans, because their minds go to the spread option offenses of the early-mid 2000’s.

The game has changed a lot since then. I agree that the downfield passing game is the most important piece, but I also don’t think coaches are looking for a guy who looks great running read option while being a “serviceable” passer. I think it’s more about finding guys with the arm talent and football IQ to be good downfield passers, who are also athletic enough to make plays with their legs.

There are obviously very few guys who can do what Jayden does, but he’s a special player. Still makes sense to target guys who can throw AND have the athletic ability to make plays on scrambles, draws, and options. It’s a no-brainer if you can force the defense to account for another run threat on every play.

The key is deception. Make them think run and then pass and vice versa. Dual threat. I happen to think it’s a good starting point.

That’s why Gus Malzone was so successful. Once he got you started guessing….you were toast.

Dual threats are always the better qbs in today’s game. Doesn’t always translate to the nfl well but it’s pretty standard in CFB.
The only drawback in the NFL is that you lose the dynamic mobility around 30 or so, but you can keep your arm to about 37 (and your mind continues to improve through 40).

Elway was a true dual threat that evolved into a pocket QB, and won 2 Super Bowls way past his prime.
Cam Newton was a dual threat, but never made the transition to pure passer. He got to a Super Bowl, but was done after about a decade.

I watch Jayden throw, and I think he can be a pure passer long after his legs go.

I actually prefer a QB that can move when the play breaks down like Burrow, Daniels, Mauk, Flynn instead of an auto sack like Mett, and Jamarcus

JR could move, bro. He ran like a 4.8 at 260 lbs

He wasn't easy to sack either. Took a grown man to sack JaMarcus.

this isn’t unique to pocket passers.

Maybe basic physiology, but that's countered by continued experience and applied knowledge.

Drew Brees after 30 had declining arm strength, but eventually near perfect understanding of the game. If you could have welded a new arm on him, he would have killed it. He saw it, just couldn't do it.

Brady started out as a good QB on a great team; eventually he was a great QB on good teams. He won a Super Bowl in Tampa well past his physical prime.

Jamarcus actually stepped up his run game in his last year. In college he was the real deal.
he only topped 70 yards once his whole 3 year career as a starter.

Not saying he was Jayden. But he went from being a statue to being able to use his legs when he had to. Dude was a dominant QB in college.

If Mett could just have moved a LITTLE he would have been elite… there were times I was genuinely flabbergasted that a 22yo D1 athlete had so little mobility.

Is there an actual question you’re asking? Statement you’re trying to make?

He’s not in the top 5.

Joe Burrow
Jayden Daniels
Y.A. Tittle
Bert Jones
Tommy Hodson
Rohan Davey

All were clearly better than Russell.
