After LSU Pounding Dabo.

Dabo's Clemson got away for so long winning a 2 National Championships. Then once he played on a national stage against LSU he hasn't been the same ever since. LSU has pound him again probably towards obscurity and all of his arrogance with him. Damn that man was so arrogant. But it wasn’t like our coach. Well, I guess he was humbled and is now on the other side of it. Thanks to his alcohol recovery and all those who allowed him his consequences like his wife. Today when I watch him act arrogant it's all in fun with a taste of a lesson for the reporter.

Let's not act like they didn't handle a good bama team a couple times during that natty run, also beat Ohio state in playoffs year we beat them for natty. They simply didn't change with times, but they were a damn good program for about a decade

Correct, these are facts!
Dabo had a great program, and I believe he is still a great coach. The problem with Dabo is that he did not change with the times, and the times changed dramatically, notably with regards to talent acquisition. He refused to take advantage of the new rules and found himself with mid-level talent.

And blames Lane Kiffin for it....well one wonders when watching Dabo grab Kiffins ears for that long midfield after the game.

Clemson had loaded rosters pre NIL era and had some really good teams. With that being said I never believed Dabo was that good of a coach, he was always reliant on his OC and DC for most of that run. Now he refuses to adapt to the times and can’t pick coordinators to save his life.

Dabo’s run at Clemson began many years ago with a meaningless bowl win over LSU and now after a few thrashings in a row from LSU fitting were the ones to end that run. Definitely looked like one of those program backbreackers.
Like when we beat UF in the fog/shoe game to knock them out the playoff hunt and they haven’t even been a .500 program since

I disagree. Outside of having Venables as his DC and two of the best college QB ever, he has been run of the mill ClemPson HQ.
He has portal players and NiL. Don’t buy his Sanctimonious act. Dabo is a PoS. He knew Vanables propped the defense up with sign stealing. He had a way of slipping things in the media that tried to self assign martyrdom as if he was fighting a holy war.
Against LSU he demanded the full 90 min warmup instead of the modified time. This was only done to get as many fans to go home as possible.
Screw Dabo. Saban saw right through him. That’s why he was never sought after to be bamas coach.

I dont call last year a thrashing. It was a pillow fight.....2019 lsu walked away from them after slow start, yes.

Disagree all you want....they won 2 national titles and lost to us for a third, over a 7 year period. They knocked off some very good teams in the process. That isn't luck.

I never saw Dabo as arrogant back then. He seemed like a goober, but he had an unbelievable run and will end up in the College Hall of Fame. His issue was being too stubborn to change with the times with the transfer portal and NIL. Dude made it to 4 NCs and won 2 against the best of all time, Saban. And he almost won another against Saban. In 2019, he just happened to run into the best team of all time.

It was a great program, but im not sure we can say he is still a great coach. Great coaches adapt with the times. Losing venables was the start of the downfall, along with his talent dropoff

quote:No one cares about last years result even though we won on the road against a then top 5 opponent. Both those teams were 7-6. LSU boat raced them in the national championship when they were on a 25 game winning streak and put the final nail in the coffin in Dabo’s career last night. He won’t survive this era and should’ve retired with Saban.

There are several parts to being a great head coach, which may mean that a great coach does not fit that description while still being a great coach. I think that is Dabo.

I think you nailed it there. A great head coach needs to be adaptable to change in the same way a great coach needs to be adaptable to changes that occur during a game. And that may be his singular deficiency, and may be why he has managed to perform at a top level until the number and rapidity of changes overwhelmed his other abilities.

I wonder if Dabo thought he was a good enough coach to make up for a talent deficit with superior team chemistry and coaching. He might have been over-confident.

Ummm, Saban wasn't successful with NIL after dominating without

Could be. People who excel at their jobs can develop a degree of confidence that becomes overconfidence. Until it costs them; then, if they recognize it, they can correct. Or they may dig in their heels and fail again.

Sabin retired for the same reason Clemson has become irrelevant. Management of NIL and the portal takes a totally different approach. Dabo lack the inside to change with the times. Sabin realized that he was superannuated and got out while he was ahead.

quote:schedule matters though and it’s helping the big10 in the playoffs. Clemson taking charge of a down acc gave them a major advantage vs bama. If you only have to prepare for 1 or 2 games and the rest of your schedule is easy it’s a big time advantage. Your starters end up with less wear and tear if you can sit them in more games. The sec currently has the problem of having lots of good teams and just a few bad.
