I've said it a few times on here and BEFORE Saturday's game. Dabo is the generation's Les Miles. A good coach who at one point in his career had his program at a championship level. However, his downfall will be his stubborn refusal to adapt and change with the ever changing landscape of the sport. That is more important now than ever.
Clemson is in the sport LSU found itself in 2013 - 2016. Everyone could see the decline from championship caliber because of the HC's refusal to adapt. But, because the buyout is so big and the coach's past great success not everyone was fully on board to make a change. Remember even at Les's "final LSU game" in 2015 there was still a significant degree of support for him among fans and some decision makers.
That said, Saturday's performance has, understandably, lit Dabo's seat into a raging inferno. Clemson didn't look like it belong on the same field with LSU from both a personnel and coaching standpoint. Much of that was set up in the offseason. (1) They didn't try to get a starting QB from the portal when that has almost become SOP these days. Instead, they stubbornly went with the in house option that had never proven to be all that great before. (2) Dabo hired a relic from the past to be his OC who was about 10 years past his expiration date.

If you only have to prepare for 1 or 2 games and the rest of your schedule is easy it’s a big time advantage. Your starters end up with less wear and tear if you can sit them in more games. The sec currently has the problem of having lots of good teams and just a few bad.
This is the exact reason. Add to it he landed two exceptional college QBs.

NIL wasn't really cranked up when Saban retired. He could have handled it just fine as he had a pro background.
I think what REALLY made him quit was the abuse of the transfer portal. Players get mad at coach? Transfer. Boosters from other schools contact player during season and offer more money? Transfer. Player sucks in practice and mad he won't start? Transfer. Player transfers and don't like new school? Transfer. Coach tries to develop player but player thinks he is too touch? Transfer. Player doesn't like accountability? Transfer.
THAT is probably what got Saban to quit. Couldn't hold players accountable anymore or develop them as he used to.

The point in time when Clemson fell off the map can be traced to losing two of the best coordinators in the game DC Brent Venables and OC Tony Elliot to HC positions

Clemson benefitted from playing in a very weak ACC and avoided injury as a result. Clemson will not ever win another Natty for the next 3 decades unless it drops to Division 2 or 3.
No ACC team will win a Natty ever again in College Football. ACC teams are almost as over-rated as Oregon!!

Dabo reminds me of Gerry Dinardo! If Dinardo had kept Carl Reese LSU would have been playing in the SEC championship game in 1998 instead of suffering a 4-7 season with several losses of 3 points or less.
The year Dabo lost his Coordinators Brent Venables and Tony Elliot his teams became meh! Then NIL and the Portal showed up to throw gas on his simmering dumpster fire! He’s done at Clemson
