LSU has been fricking up for years with the coaching salaries. The salaries should be determined the same way it is done in the corporate world. Not by cost of the position, but by cost of talent.

Formal interview I could see not happening, but there is no way Orgeron and Woodward didn't have lengthy conversations with Bo about the possibility of coming over to take the DC job. I think Jordy is hung up on semantics here.

Agree with this. Just because the guy didn’t come down and draw plays out on a white board doesn’t mean an “interview” didn’t take place.

I would be willing to bet the interviews that were conducted this year are the first ones O has done since he became HC.

I have a feeling Gordy will be getting some phone calls from some unhappy folks at LSU about this getting out

Well it would help explain the canada ordeal. Hard to get a feel for your employees personality if you dont do an interview in person Before hiring

There is a difference in interviewing someone who wants to work for you and having conversations with someone who knows its their job if they want it. I believe LSU had the latter but it would not surprise me at all if they did not have a formal interview BEFORE both parties knew it was his job.

Remind me again why Woodward is such a great AD. Besides being part of the BR good ole boy network, I mean.

After viewing 2020, who feels comfortable with Orgeron’s judgment?

Stuff like this is why O is getting fired if we don't have a dramatic turnaround in 2021. People think I'm crazy for suggesting it, but 2019 keeps looking flukier and flukier. Woodward would RELISH an opportunity to fire O and give some big name $8 million per year.

Gordy needs to decide who he wants to work for. If he wants to be a mouthpiece for LSU he should go through the hiring process and draw a paycheck from them. If he wants to work for Guaranty he should let his employees do their jobs.

I don't buy that LSU didn't "interview" Pelini before hiring him. They may not have had a formal interview in the traditional sense, but there is NO WAY there weren't several discussions between Pelini, Orgeron, Woodward before the hire was official. It's not uncommon for people to be hired without formal interviews. A lot of hiring, particularly hiring people away from other employers, happens somewhat clandestinely via phone calls, not a formal interview. LSU and O knew what they were getting. This just sounds like Jordy is giving a half-truth for salacious purposes and/or trying to take heat off of O for a failed hired.

That was a different scenario and was what I call a "Pontius Pilate hire". O was not LSU first choice. He lobbied for the job and put together a sales pitch as to why he should be hired. A HUGE part of that sales pitch was the inclusion of Kiffin as OC. When that part of the plan fell through, O knew he had to get a big name OC to appease the masses (who were very lukewarm, at best, on O) and his bosses who (in part) gave him the job with the understanding Kiffin would be part of the package. O didn't know Canada and probably didn't really want to hire him. But he was a "big name" at the time and one that would make the fanbase, boosters, AD happy. That is the SOLE reason Canada was hired.

Thus far, the ONLY quality Woodward has shown is his ability to vastly overpay coaches relative to their market value. After 2019 he made O the second highest paid HC in the country. No doubt O earned a bump in pay. But that drastic a bump was ridiculous. O wasn't in tremendous demand and there wasn't a real risk of him leaving LSU.

Then Woodward guaranteed nearly $7.0 million to a guy, Pelini, who was off everyone else's radar. Aranda was making $2.5 million per because other schools wanted him (at least A&M) and there were suggestions of him potentially being a HC candidate. The market demand was there. Woodward paid Pelini "Aranda money" without "Aranda demand"

Now he just committed $1.2 million for a first time OC who no one had heard of prior to the LSU coaching search, and a guy making FAR less than that at his previous job. I'm not saying Peetz is a bad hire. We don't know that yet. But even paying him $800k (which they paid Ensminger) would have been a HUGE salary increase and likely more than his market value elsewhere.

If Woodward really is looking for an opportunity to fire O then he might be the dumbest AD in the country because he, unnecessarily, made doing so much more onerous when he gave O a huge raise/extension after 2019.

Why do we still have incompetent leadership running the program?

This makes zero sense. That big of a contract and no interview? I have a hard time believing this.

. I’d bet it’s true. They listened to old players and his success the first time around. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they didn’t interview him. Which is just sad
