I tip my cap to you. I’m with you on Nuss. I just don’t think Sloan is very creative in his play calling. On his first interception, had Nuss thrown the ball away instead of trying to make something happen, maybe things don’t spiral out of control. Nuss needs to be selective and run when he has the opportunity. I believed we were going to be in trouble when we were attempting FGs. Should LSU score TDs on those trips, they are up 34-10 at the half.

Maybe Nuss will study to learn from his mistakes, and apply what he’s learned against the gumps. A win over the gumps, will take away some of the sting of giving this game to A&M.

Pretending that Nuss is even in the same league as Matt Flynn is absolutely laughable.

You do know Matt threw ints vs Bama on three consecutive possessions in '07?

Yes he needs to improve, but so did JD and JB after their first seasons

he's definitely worse than either player was in their first year tbh

I couldn't agree more. Nuss has one of the poorest football IQs that I have seen in quite a while. I believe that he is a journeyman QB at best and definitely shouldn't have the starting job at LSU. People seem to want excuses for him --- why he isn't performing well...He is just not at that level and he will never will be. He is just not the type of QB that can lead a nationally competitive LSU team. He is very reminiscent of Danny Etling.

Matt Flynn

What NFL team does Matt Flynn play for?

Nuss is almost certain to be a high NFL pick if he so chooses to leave this season. Matt Flynn had one good season, but not great, as an LSU QB. He falls short of the excellence of Russell in 2006 or Davey in 2001.

He has had two shitty and one average game in his last 3. He cant or wont scramble for yardage, even though he would likely be decent at it, he has happy feet and throws off his back foot with regularity and it is starting to bite him in the arse.

The INT up 10 inside his own 20 on a desperation heave was God awful for even a bad QB. It was type of throw even Weigman didn't make when he was DOWN 10 before he was eventually yanked.

He doesn't need a clean pocket to be good, but he does need one to be elite. I like the kid, and love his arm. I just really wish he would put the work in to get better with his footwork and trust his ability to use his legs to move the chains when need be.

don't see that 'it' factor in him that I saw in JB/JD

He has made some big throws in some big spots. His best quality was how clutch he had been all year, and Herb was hammering that in the first half broadcast. He’s made mistakes but won us some games without costing us any until last night — so right now, last night is an outlier. Hopefully it stays an outlier.

(Still agree he needs to tuck it when it’s there)

Thru 8 games running an RPO offense I’m willing to bet that Nuss hasn’t pulled the ball more than 3 times.

This is a big deal. The whole point of an option offense is to exercise the options. If you only ever hand it off, it’s just a shitty running play that lacks lead blocking or upfield momentum. You have to run designed QB runs for it to work.

I'm not giving up on Nuss like half the board seems to be.

Hopefully we can get it out of our systems (myself included) because he's all we've got this season.
______________

You can get it out of your system. If we win out, all you fair weather fans will sing his praises. We turn on our own quickly here. In both directions.

Because he didn't play bad only last week. He's played bad 3 weeks in a row.

Nuss definitely got rattled after the first interception but last night was the fist game where he had fairly steady pressure and he could not handle it. May have exposed his real weakness, but agree, throw the damn ball away, live to fight another day. Sloan sucks as OC, we run the same A gap run play over and over with no success. If something does not work try something else. As for the first round OL, better take another look, they got pushed around all night and as for run block they cannot move anyone one yard past the line of scrimmage. Overall team may have been exposed, maybe not so good. We'll learn against Bama and Florida.

He’s great, but folded like a cheap umbrella in the second half.

This is true. But it’s also true that our playcalling and overall design is garbage. There were numerous plays where the play fake itself is geared toward Nuss running. He needs a legitimate play action pass offense not the rpo we saw with Burrow and Daniels. Put Nuss under center way more. I just don’t think they’ve adjusted to his skill set.

Nuss will never be great until he learns to pull the ball and run on some RPOs! That is way to predictable, the defenses key on the RB because they know he is scared to run

He’s not an RPO QB! They’re asking him to do something they know he can’t. It’s dumb. And we have zero ground game. The whole thing is a cluster.

If he would learn that there are times that the best option is to either take off and gain a few yards, throw the ball away or take a sack vs throwing a risky pass he would be significantly better. Even JD took a lot of sacks in 2022 (43) because the play wasn't there or he perceived it wasn't.
