Current Girlilla ballers + incoming class, which includes stud pitcher Allison Walljasper = world domination

Info about Walljasper

quote:

Walljasper [Manteca, Calif.] is a pitcher and infielder for Sierra High School in California. She was named the 2013 Valley Oak League Player of the Year and led her team to the Sac Joaquin Section crown. As a junior, she was 18-2 with a 0.47 ERA and struck out 227 batters over her 120 innings of work. Walljasper was just as impressive at the plate where she batted .482 with 20 RBIs and a .815 slugging percentage. She has collected 2012 and 2013 MaxPreps Underclass All-American status.

quote:

“Allie has been a standout at every level she has played at,” Torina said. “She has won championships in virtually every age group. She will be a force in the SEC not just on the mound but in our lineup. She will be an immediate difference maker for our program.”

A Tiger Nation Salute to the LSU Softball TeamI guess this means we lost.

I don't think there is one damn true Tiger fan, player or coach who thinks we "lost". I guarantee they won a lot of hearts with just a tremendous effort against all odds.

Coach Torina established a standard for this program in suspending Czechner. The power show was something to see. What about Selman seizing the moment Saturday night. Those kids just flying around the base paths and flying headfirst to make plays in the field.

How about Corbello throwing 500 pitches in the desert heat, battling to the end. She didn't have much left by the last few innings but she left it all out on the field. The lasting memory was that final inning in the early game yesterday when she clearly owned the mound and the opposing batters in the way Roger Clemens once did in his day. The body language was something to see as this young lady grew up before our eyes.

So, regardless of the scoreboard, this was a big win for LSU softball in ways that will pay dividends for years to come. Had they been seeded just a few places higher it is likely they might still be playing next weekend. Their play this weekend confirmed they probably should have been.

So proud of the team! They fought to the very end and that's all you could ask for. Getting those two runs in the top of the 5th in the final game made me beam with pride. Weren't going to go down without a fight!

Yes and they never seemed to get the close strike call when they needed it and invariably led to a big hit for ZONA. They may have still on it anyway but would have been interesting for the Tigers to get a couple more at bats against a pitcher not used to going that long.

I was really impressed with this group this weekend. If they can continue playing like that in future campaigns they will generate a lot of fan followers. I would also assume the SEC Network will support this as well.

Torina is building a program. Unfortunatley, a key player made a mistake or maybe we would have beat a very good Arizona team in the second game. When I saw that the team batting average three years ago was like.234 and is now well over .300, I was impressed; that speaks to good recruiting and coaching. It was a very good season for a young team.

These girls did LSU and Louisiana proud. Never giving up even against ridiculous odds. The future is very bright for this program and I think before Corbello and Jaquish are done they will have a opportunity to win a national championship.

I watched the last few games last year and this year as well. As a result of watching this years team I am declaring that I will be in the stands next year for some games.

There is so much to enjoy about their game but the thing I think I like the most is these girls are playing ALL OUT for their TEAM - for their TEAMMATES. No dumbass swag BS. They showed a lot of class and determination. And on top of it all they've got awesome POWER. And that is fun to watch.

I think I like every one of the players but the one that impressed me the most is the FRESHMAN pitcher Corbello. She showed so much heart but beyond that her softball IQ and the seasoning she showed beyond her years was really something to behold. I think I was as impressed with her performance as I've ever been with an athlete. She hung tough and never wavered even as she was losing it when she was closing in on 500 pitches for the weekend - which just sounds ridiculous when I hear myself saying it.

These games were fun to watch. I'm ashamed to say I have been to any games. That will change next year.

You won't be disappointed if you go out to the ballpark. I went to about a half dozen games this year but they were my first ones with Torina coaching. The games were a lot of fun, and, as others have said, Torina is doing a great job.

Superb job Lady Tigers!!!

I watched all of your Arizona regional games. Of course that included the win over Louisville, your one run 9-8 loss to Arizona, your huge comeback win over Boston University, your mastery of Arizona in game 6, and your final disappointing loss to Arizona in game 7.

Every game was played the way it should be. Every inning - down to the wire.

Thoroughly enjoyed the series. I follow you guys every year.

This year it seems that Coach Beth Torina and her assistants have turned the corner in restoring hitting/slugging/OBP/smart base running/scoring to the mix (of course I mean offense).

LSU out-homered the nation's leading home run team in their own back yard. Wow. More than that, the ladies are learning to score many runs per game - particularly after there are 2 outs in an inning. Never say die. Impressive!!!

Sorry to gush so much. I really liked what I saw with the on the field Lady Tigers softball product...

Aggressive base running was excellent, although a few bad base running decisions were made by the Lady Tigers. I was so impressed with Boulet taking third immediately after the Boston U SS let the ball get away 10 feet or so into the outfield. Wow. She did not slow down when she saw that. That is not only aggressive base running but also smart, instinctive base running.

In the end, our ace pitcher on the trip (Corbello) got worn out. Not her fault. I heard the announcers say that she was somewhat used to that grind, having played summer ball last year with several games per day venue. Still, she did not have to do that during her past regular season freshman year at LSU. In this case, I think it caught up with her. Congratulations to her courage and fortitude nonetheless. She totally looked like a champion in game 6 vs. Arizona. As someone else said, she owned the field against Arizona.

She will be much better next year.

I was also very impressed with Selman vs. Boston University. Wow. She shut them down after initially giving up their entire game total of 3 runs. Held the line for LSU to come back and give her the win in a regional. Also a freshman. Congratulations.

Yes, LSU will need a little pitching help next year. Sounds like they will get it.

Meantime, the hitters returning (Bell, SJ, others) will continue to get better on offense.

What a great mix of fast and powerful smart ball players.

Looks promising. Congratulations for a season well played. You should be proud...

Great summation, Taser Tiger. Coach Torina wrested every ounce of their abilities this weekend. I believe they found more inner strength than they even knew or believed they had. The win Saturday night and the first game win Sunday may prove to be defining moments for this program. Some special things happened for this team this weekend that will have more long term benefit. It was great to see.

Why ridiculous odds? I thought they held their own all weekend. They just ran out of gas.

This has been a special program since day 1 with Yvette. The future is bright for the Tigers.

We were pretty damn good before Yvette came over from ULL. She did a good job of keeping us competitive in the SEC, but we lost our edge during her final years. Bama, UGA, UF, and UT all passed us by under her watch. We desperately needed some new blood in the program. Thank heavens for Beth. Hopefully she will stick around for a while.
