Not saying I disagree but Richardson from Florida is about 250 and even he didn't make it a full season. So my question is how much does the weight really matter?
I’d be really curious to see some actual data about how weight (maybe adjusted for height) correlates to injury rate at various positions in the NFL.
If you think about the types of injuries that actually take guys off the field (meaning not bumps and bruises) I’m just not convinced extra weight does much to reduce your actual injury risk. Particularly for quarterbacks in today’s game. But again, I haven’t actually seen any data.
The sliding thing is a bit of a different conversation.

I hope im wrong but i dont see him having a stellar NFL career but i hope he does!
For the OP, is does not matter about weight at all. Deshaun Watson gets hurt every year. As long as Daniels learns to get down, he'll be fine. He can't run around with reckless abandon like he did sometimes at LSU.

I thought Lamar Jackson would literally be dead by now..so what do I know?
Posted on 8/15/24 at 1:36 pm to TheShmoo
All these guys are going to be so pissed off when he doesn’t get knocked out, aren’t they?

A few more pounds won’t help from an injury prevention standpoint. That’s just a dumb argument. Now sliding and running out of bounds. Those are things JD needs to embrace if he wants to have a long career. Same goes for any NFL QB though.

Brees was short and small and he seemed to do just fine

he might bbe 205 with his pads on...
he walks around at 180-190
So you're just going to make shite up to try and strengthen your argument. Cool.

He ran a lot, so people watched him get tackled more than most QBs. Did he take a few big hits? Yes. But it's not like he was getting lit up so often he was injured constantly or missed a bunch of games. This myth that he is too small and takes so many big hits he'll get hurt makes zero sense. Which is it? Does he take a lot of big hits or is he too small? Because according to them both were true over the course of 2 years in the SEC and he was a durable player.

I see people knocking Daniels for his weight/height combo. If he gains 25 lbs. he loses a step and that step is the difference between getting clobbered and running by someone for another 15 yd.s +.
Leave the kid alone. Ask the Florida defense about his size???? They didn't know how much he weighed because they couldn't catch him long enough to put him on a scale! Ha!

Remember when everyone said he was too tentative in the passing game?

quote:Is there any valid information that says bigger QBs are injured less often. Some of the biggest most physical QBs in history stayed hurt, big Ben, McNair, McNabb......
People don't want to hear that on here....but this will make it hard to stay in the league long-term.

I mean shite we sacked him 8 times, forced a fumble, and he only had 33 yards rushing.

JD extended plays during college due to his speed, made throws others could not because defenders were protecting for the run.
NFL is faster and in open field the run threat is not as easy as college. JD's ability to read and throw from the pocket , make reads, stay in the pocket will be the factor whether he has a great NFL career.
JD, may be the best running threat out there and no one knows how this will transfer to the NFL

Ever see Drew Brees up close. He isnt a huge man.

Randall Cunningham in the old rules, hit em hard NFL was 6'4" and 216 lbs. How did he do? I seem to remember him being pretty durable. How about Fran Tarkenton, he was a real monster wasn't he?
For more recent running style QBs think of Alex Smith , 6'4" 213 lbs. I cant remember him missing much time.
