Coach departure portal?

Posted by The Rev Tooncinator on 12/1/25 at 4:47 pm
College football is soundly in its next era; some might say it’s a long time coming. The best cheaters aren’t the best rewarded anymore. Players can trade their youth and health for some life-changing money while the schools figure out where to park the profits.

As fans and as alumni (and even as Americans) we do need to decide how mercenary we allow this sport to become. It’s easy to dismiss the past 3 days as sour grapes from a losing party, but what about how this played out would make any Ole Miss fan ever want to buy into college football again? Are there going to be 5 titans who buy and sell players and coaches and the rest of the FBS can just deal with it? I can’t believe I’m here arguing for them, but Ole Miss just had its greatest regular season in the school’s history and it was (likely) blown to hell because Brian Kelly couldn’t be bothered to coach at this level. And the rules the sport plays under made it so that LSU had to immediately move on its best option or risk being left with discards.

Fairness and sportsmanship need to remain a part of college football at whatever scale the money rolls in, and it’s going to keep rolling in. If the league can restrict players to a portal window for transfers, shouldn’t the same apply to coaches for the same reasons?

Maybe Ole Miss jammed LK and he could have stayed and coached their team into the playoffs but for some stubbornness in Oxford. But there has to be a way to prevent a school from having to make that choice that still leaves an open market for talented coaches.

. Good call. I forgot to include in my list. I caught all the away football games at SR last season and it’s a good LSU crowd.

yes, my tone didn’t come through. You can call Hog Alley many things, but fancy is not one. Great bar food, though. If I was going to watch in Metairie I would get to Hog Alley early for a seat.

Uptown I would go to Cooter Browns or Bruno’s.

Superior Grill (the Mexican one) also has a nice bar with TVs along the wall.

Metairie has a Walk On and Hooters close to each other. The Hooters has a nice covered outside with TV everywhere. If you want to get fancy in Metairie there are spots off Metairie Road like Hog Alley.
NC State/Stetson turning into a game. Stetson just pulled ahead 7-4 bottom of 5th
*advance out of their home regionals

I can’t think of a more embarrassing thing in college sports than to bomb out of a double-elimination tournament at home.
Raiders are advancing runners. 1 out and 1st and 3rd. 18 is up. Get you another homer, bro.
The Raiders hold off Vandy in top of the 5th and escape with their 5-1 lead intact after loading the bases. Vandy has 4 frames left to catch up.
Where the duck are Texas’ fans? Weather looks the same in Oxford and it’s a packed house for Ole Miss.
All credit to the OK State hitter, but that is a flyout in the grass in many parks. Ball was spinning sideways.
Georgia season is over with a walkoff OK State homerun by a freshman.
Georgia closer just walked lead off with 4 straight pitches. Tying run at plate for cowboys. This is only close game so far today.
Cross your fingers for Okie State. They’re in bottom of the 9th and need 3 runs to win.
GA Tech left fielder saved 2 runs with a diving catch in the 1st. Then pitcher gave up a 3-run bomb. That’s like homer # 20 across all games today and it’s not even half closed.
Do they run squeeze play during regular season? I’m loving this.
