I think it was mainly about Dupre
specifically was about LSU wr though...the comment was LSU wr are tall but don't play tall

what point are you trying to make?
Most tiger fans touted Dupree to be awesome...a few bad games and scouting report mentioned on air by Wisconsin coaches and our entire fan base acts like experts and starts saying he doesn't go after the ball etc. It is just funny that prior to last week I bet we never heard that before.

Is their assessment incorrect or inaccurate?
Idk. He has always looked good when fades are thrown to him in the end zone...do you disagree?

quote:Let's say IF this season turns out to be pretty good or even better than that. IF, theoretically. That means the only time since 2011, some would say 2007, LSU had a good passing game was with transfer QBs (or at least not recruited by a CLM staff). There's something really wrong with that. Probably several things wrong with that.
Our QB "development" under Miles seems to follow a standard procedure. One facet of that is having a green QB sling the ball all over the place. Almost as if to prove a point. It's odd. I've given up trying to figure out a reason.
This was my long-winded way to say that I do think that the AU start for Harris has contributed to his current state.

I thought Etling's poise alone was enough to earn him a shot. Now, my concern is his arm. I haven't rewatched & I was kinda drunk, but it didn't seem like he had much zip. Was it touch? Or does he have a noodle arm? Was that under thrown ball/s a bad throw or does he not have the arm strength?
The interception was a bad throw.

We were used to seeing Odell and Jarvis prevented interceptions many times when they played at LSU. That is why they are starters in NFL today.

I don't hate the I-form either but is has it's place in an offense and it should not be the base offense of a team that has the level of talent that LSU has.
We can run Pro-style offense and not run out a FB and a down TE the majority of the time.
I thought the pall-calling was better this game but did tighten up after the INT in the end zone.

It's just laughable that les and cam singled Harris out as their guy, knowing what his strengths were coming out of hs, and try to plug him into this system. Same with jennings and going back to JJ. Abd its his junior year and he still cant grasp the basic fundamentals of the position and your shitty offense? That's on coaching.

nah, i was all over him last year for not going up and making plays early. As was most of the rant.

Well, most of us are not objective about LSU football, particularly during this past off season.

Not entirely. I think if we step back and objectively look at his performance, it has not necessarily reached the potential that we ascribed to him. His lackluster performance so far this season just adds to that perception. Again, I'm pulling for the kid, but as with so many other facets of our team, I think what we have is what we have. I place the "blame" for that on Miles and the staff.

He does have a step on him but he doesn't go after the ball using his size to his advantage
Correct.
If you go back and watch, you'll see that Dupre was in front of the CB when the ball was in the air. Instead of slowing down and staying in front of the DB, and jumping for the ball with the defender behind him, he just keeps running and lets the defender get in front of him.
Yes the ball was underthrown, but Dupre's horrible adjustment made it look even worse. he simply needed to position his body better against the DB. the fact that this wasn't a natural tendency in order to make the catch concerns me. making that catch isnt' something you can teach. A good wr would have none how to come down with that catch 7 out of 10 times.
The ball was in the air for a while. How are you taught to catch a deep ball like that? At it's highest point. Dupre was trying to make that catch waste high at best, without touching the defender.
Also, you left off the 6th incomplete pass. the overthrow out of bounds to Dupre. Almost looked as if Etling just said frick it and threw it out of bounds instead of giving Dupre another jump ball.

maybe the Wisconsin coaches scouted the rant

Likely already been said - haven't read whole thread.
Anyway, it's not so much they should have been catches. Moreso, it's that a 6 4 5 star manned up on anyone's 5 11 is the correct throw to make.

2. *Slightly* overthrown ball to Guice when he couldn't really step into the throw. Guice should have had it.
Not at all catchable by Guice. Just bad timing on wheel route. I was extremely encouraged that we have thrown the wheel route 6-7 times in 2 games including the 30 shot to LF at Wisc and the TD ball to Desean Smith.
One play you missed. A 10-15 yd completion to Colin Jeter that was erased by holding penalty on Teuhema. We can give him credit for his execution even though someone else erred on the play. Ball on the money straight over the middle to Jeter. I had forgotten about that one until I watched the DVR replay last night.

true and we have high expectations with wrs. I along with you am just pulling for the kid. Before its over I believe we will say he was great. If he doesn't get his shite together I am wrong

yep 3rd straight time miles has this weird fetish with a running threat at qb. he keeps getting the same result, they don't fit our system but les doesn't seem to care.
I don't get why les can't recruit to the system he wants to run, he wants the power Iform, so why not get a qb that can run that offense. I know its not a common offense anymore for the better high schools but I'm sure we can find a pro style qb to fit those needs.
I could at least understand if this was les miles 2nd year and he inherited the grab bag of talent and he tried to work him to what he wanted. That isn't the case though, les has been here forever and has a system in place, why not recruit to it?
I think our media and our insiders have done a shite job of letting miles get away with flashy recruiting classes without addressing why we can't recruit to a system.

the int was definitely a great read. Wasn't it 3rd down also? If so it was basically a punt.

putting aside the back end of the play, it was a great read and a good job of avoiding the pressure and buying extra time. The most impressive part of DE was how he didn't panic in the pocket despite grimes line once again being a failure.

I agree I loved his presence in the pocket. I just worry what our line will look like against sec dlines...hopefully the staff will actually go shotgun and 3-4 wides and let him throw it around some to loosen defenses up. That is probably too much to ask for though

I was messaging some old LSU friends during the game when this happened, and I said the exact same thing: no problem at all with that INT. Dupre had single coverage and NFL talent in the endzone--you take that shot every chance you get. As for Dupre sucking, I don't believe that underperforming equates to sucking. I'm hoping he's just not getting up for the first two games (though I don't know how one doesn't get pumped to play in that environment in Green Bay). He was our best receiver last year. Really need him to get back to old form.
