That’s only true for the top 20 programs or so.

College football has always been top heavy, there is a reason the term Blue Bloods exists.

With the amount of money that College Football and Basketball brings in, I say let them get paid. The majority of these guys will never see the league, so let them make some money while they can.

$100k per scholarship player per season

I don’t see realistically that they could generate an additional 8.5 million a year, after the boosters just committed 20+ million to buyout O’s staff and another 100+ million to get Kelly and his staff, with DC and OC hires still outstanding.

Players can't afford a slice of pizza was always bullshite. At least the ones that produced. They have always gotten paid, kinda like in the real world.

Agreed, an education has no value.
Nor has free athletic training.
Nor free housing.
Or free nutrition advice and free food.

Players got an allowance of $125-200 week depending on family income
Not like they were starving to begin with

You can’t undo Pandora’s Box once it’s open. I have followed LSU for 40 years religiously but I’m loosing interest in all this entitlement bull crap. I’m not against players getting a stipend, to help them get through school. We are now giving hundreds of thousands to a few players while the rest get peanuts. How’s that going to work? These kids can’t even manage a college schedule without help much less a hundred thousand dollars a year. Some of these kids are going from EBT cards to a hundred thousand a year without any idea of how to manage money.

What’s to keep a casino or, worse, a consortium of gamblers from sponsoring a quarterback or star receiver?

And then the “sponsors” offer the kid a couple of million bucks to throw a game, or even something as simple as opting out?

Lots of NCAA rules are stupid, but the ones about gambling make sense.

NIL throws the door wide open on all this. Lawyers, agents, gamblers, all putting up NIL money for nefarious reasons.

The vast majority of players are worth less than their scholarship.

The whole concept that they had this untapped market value was bullshite from the beginning.

Outside of a few superstars, college athletes have almost zero marketability.

There’s no putting that Jeanie back in the bottle. The downward spiral of college football has begun. There was time when it was all about winning for your team and school. Now it’s all about “me” and how much money I can get and how fast can I get to the “league”. Sad.

Maybe players should pay the University for a 4 year audition and training, not the other way around. Kajuntiger123456 is crazy with that thought.

Do not LSU boosters. Stop going to the games watch or read about the game . Empty stadiums.

Doesn't matter how much they come up with. The player, or his dad or representative, will ask bama, ga, texas a&m, texas and other loaded alumni at the largest schools if they will exceed 'the latest bid' by LSU, and LSU will receive only the players that they really don't need or want. Our only hope going forward with this insane system is to outcoach the money loaded teams. The jury is still out on whether LSU is capable of doing that.

they will. The riches alums that love college football will dominate college football going forward.
The immediate transfer to any school anytime is just the cherry on top of the ruination of college sports. Money will drive everything.
Like someone else posted, I can see where a school could take up a weekly donation pot and offer it to the upcoming schools starting star QB to not play....and they might find their ankle is 'tweaked' that week and can't play. They don't play and they get paid....weekly by the opposing team. This fiasco is truly the wild wild west.

Why do high schoolers do it, what about middle schoolers? Why is it only big time college players “putting their bodies on the line” when everyone else plays the sport for the love of the game

People were and still would be beating down the door to play football just for the enjoyment and fame. There is a professional level, and there are professionals there.

I don’t care that they are making money, but this Wild Wild West fashion in which they are is 100% ruining the sport. The NFL has contracts and salary caps for a reason

It's just going to come out of the AD's pocket as additional funds. Not actually from LSU but boosters. LSU could pay back with AD funds. There's lots of ways to scheme it and they likely have something in place that if you don't stay, you're not getting paid the full amount. Seems simple to me. This is good LSU is doing this. That's pretty substantial.
