LSU fans are.....just like every other group of fans in the SEC. They expect excellence. As do Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M, Tennessee, etc. fans. There is a reason there may be 6 or 7 coaching changes in the SEC this year. Everyone wants to win. Georgia is no exception. They fired a guy who was perpetually good because he wasn't "good enough." Ironically, that guy may get to the playoffs this year while Georgia sits at home.
Right now Smart and Georgia are still in the honeymoon stage. Last year's mediocre record was blamed on Richt. This season was the "return to glory" for UGA, until they were crushed by Auburn. Until that game there really hasn't been any reason for fans to come down on the team or coaches. (Not saying this will happen) but if Georgia Tech pulls the upset this week the recruits will most definitely see the fans let the team and coaches know their displeasure. Same if they get beat by Bama/Auburn in the SEC championship game.
Credit Smart in his approach. With a new staff comes no "bad history" to attack. There are a lot of reasons to be suspect of Ogeron. But his willingness to get out and fight for a recruit isn't one of them.

So he was able to watch the absolute worst LSU home schedule in its history and didn't have positive things to say about the fans that were miserable watching the game in either extreme heat or before they wanted to wake up or while we were losing to fricking troy?
Seriously when this year should LSU fans have been excited at home?

He's a 2019 recruit. I'm sure he'll be at that game, but it will be as an LSU visitor.

The kid is an LSU commit and the #2 rated OT. tRant proved his point. You guys took his comments and started trashing a recruit rather than looking at the real problem which is our whiney fan base that walks out in the 3rd QTR or boos when things don't go our way. Then you whine and complain when a recruit picks another school.
I don't know if it was accurate or not, but I heard the announcers say Neyland was full despite the Vols' record and a monsoon. But, we won't show up for an 11AM game?

This slate of home games has been just awful this season, in part due to Alleva fricking up the UF situation last year, the greed of playing the neutral site games, and an overall bad SEC. There really hasn’t been one high stakes home game this year....and while the offense is improved, it’s Hardy appointment viewing to want to go watch Etling and co. outlast some shite team.
Blame spoiled fans all you want, but the AD has had a hand in watering down the product

This is not the first recruit to mention this over the years. It's a damn shame too. And a number of these LSU fans will read this, then go out to the next game and boo, and cut of their nose to spite their face, all because "I paid good money I can boo if I want".

Tennessee's attendance issues have been worse than ours

That's what I thought. Maybe it was because of the coaching change and being LSU. I didn't really pay much attention to the crowd.

tailgating has taken a huge hit too since they decided they just had to monetize that as well. Lots of people simply dont go anymore. Fewer people on campus in the first place leads to fewer people going to the games.
the in stadium experience has been watered down too, from the limitations on the band to 45 minute waits for concessions. Commercial breaks are out of control and LSU does nothing to try and alleviate the boredom that sets in. And with a wifi set up that has not been improved it's difficult to keep up with whats going on in other games around the country during these frequent and lengthy breaks in play.
You can buy a 4k tv for close to or maybe even less than the cost of a season ticket nowadays, a lot of people have just said the hell with it and LSU has done little to nothing to try and reverse that other than the beer garden idea, which is a good one but it's one piece of a bigger puzzle.

Every program but Alabama wants to be start of the century LSU.
Georgia fans are acting like start of the century LSU fans.
A few years ago ole miss fans were acting like start of the century LSU fans.
The LSU fanbase at the start of the Century is the GOAT fanbase.
LSU has given up on trying to recreate it.

To be fair they were like a top 5 team when he went and visited
He’s judging their fans at their best and it’s at our worst.

You're reaching here. Just trying to shoehorn your feelings about Alleva into any thread, huh?
Thomas was at the Auburn game. He saw fans leaving in the second quarter. You can't blame that on Alleva.
It's not Alleva's fault that fans don't show up for games at 11 AM.
And I don't see how Alleva "fricked up" the UF situation last year. Florida made that mess. Alleva just tried to salvage our home game. In hindsight, we probably should have just traveled to Florida. I'm not sure how much revenue was generated by that home game, and we lost anyway. But at the time, Alleva would have been absolutely skewered for losing a home game.
Also, if we had played Florida at home this year, it would have been a totally shitty gameday atmosphere. A 2:30 kickoff fresh off of a loss to Troy? The UTC game probably had a better atmosphere than that game would have.

He's describing a fan base that's used to mediocrity. Once you achieve a certain level of success ,mediocrity is intolerable. Bama fans are same way.

We played Kentucky at 11 in 2011 and the stadium was 95% full
there are several key differences between then an now, both on the field and off, which has impacted the LSU fan experience and attendance has declined as a result. Joe Alleva through his hiring and gameday policy decisions absolutely is at the heart of many of those factors. Not all mind you, but it's ignorant to claim he's blameless.

Georgia was not that way a year or two ago.
Get a couple of losses and see what happen.

quote:Did I say that? I believe I even stated the exact opposite. I want championships badly, but many in this fan base (and others as Draconian alluded to) unreasonably tear down players and coaches relentlessly without realizing just how bad it could be (AND WAS) for years.
Anybody who wants to win a championship is “entitled” which is apparently very bad
Am I happy with the losses? HELL NO!!! I want more Nattys as much as anyone. I do however acknowledge when our Tigers do well and show improvement.
Some in this fan base are just plain abusive.
We beat Florida in the swamp "They aren't the same Florida"
We beat a damn good Auburn team "They choked and should have won"
We have eight wins after many questioned if we'd even go bowling "We haven't beaten anyone. The SEC is weak".
It gets tiring and old. I just feel like our teams deserve a little more respect.

He's absolutely right.
For all the uninformed idiots asking why is he only comparing this year, he is a decorated recruit that was offered by lsu as a freshman.
I'm pretty sure he's been coming to games for at least 3 years now.

Yep. Sometimes I feel out of place being the ONLY fan yelling “Ahhhhhhh” while we’re on defense. I’m like “c’mon guys!”
