Did he frustratingly hold on to the ball too long

He held on to the ball so long that he collected more sacks than all but 2 QB's in college football.

In 9 conference games this year, he threw 10 touchdowns, 3 picks, rushed for 9 touchdowns, completed 62.9% of his passes, and got sacked 33 times.

Not great.

I have never seen such a group of petulant haters in my life. This kid was a HUGE part of the reason LSU went to Atlanta. Yeah, he holds on to the ball too long. If he threw a shot ton of pics you'd be on his arse for that too. Hell, the majority of this board hated Nuss until the UGA game. Keep staring into the light rant....

I don’t disagree. I’ve always said JD is a flawed QB. I don’t think he is deliberately doing this in that he “wants all the glory to himself” given that throwing a great pass is just as or even more so appreciated in the QB position over an amazing scramble for yardage. I really think that this trend started with him because at his last schools, he probably was the best athlete on the team. His coaches probably coached him to “when in doubt, tuck and run and try to make a play”because they thought of him as their best athlete on the team. Hopefully he can overcome this. He did show signs of his ability to do it this year.

I’m not opposed to Nuss being the starter either of the coaching staff believes he’s our best chance. I’m just not convinced because of a performance in half a game against a team that was up big and playing soft defense (even though it was a decent performance) that he is definitely the answer either. Some people here have fooled themselves into believing they “know he is” after that performance and judging off that performance alone is just not rational regardless of how you think JD is as a QB. JD still took us much further this year than anyone projected us to go. You got to at least give some credit to him for that.

He loses 3 of his top 6 receivers.

I appreciate what he did for LSU in Kelly's first season, and I hope he becomes a better, more confident passer before next fall. I just worry that we might lose momentum if the offense looks like 2022 again. If you aren't moving forward, you're moving backward.

3/6 Wide Recivers.

No 3/6 in receiving yards.

We return 2/3 of our best WR (Nabors and Thomas)

We return our top TE
We return every RB.
Add Anderson and Sampson.

Ok but show me a better option on our roster currently with legitimate evidence. (Hint: half a football game against a team that was up huge at halftime is not real evidence)

Yes we can all agree Daniels is above average, but if LSU wants to win a national championship, we need a qb that is one of the best in the country. Slightly above average won't win a championship. You pretty much made a case against Daniels...he doesn't throw the ball a ton and has a low ypa. The other qbs throw the ball more and have a higher ypa. The only reason Rogers has a lower ypa is because he threw it much more. If Daniels won't throw it as often, he needs to be more efficient

Thank you. Its ridiculous the amount of of hatred this kid receives after what he has done for LSU this season. He had a way better initial season than Joe did yet no one was calling for Joe to be benched for the backup Qb. This is ridiculous indeed!

Watching Florida get destroyed by Oregon St, Arkansas give up 500 yds passing and 5 TDs to Kansas and Ole Miss get romped by a 7-5 Texas Tech team puts some perspective on this season. A win is a win, but as it stands the only signature win of the season is Bama. I wouldn't consider beating 6-7 Florida or an Ole Miss team that has lost 4 in a row as major achievements.
I posted something a week or so ago saying watch how much less enthused people will be about winning the west after the SEC bowl season record. Doesn’t look to good from the start.

Alabama, Florida, and Ole Miss are all suppose to be the key wins. Well two of those teams have lost already.

1. This was a team that a few months before the season had 39 scholarship players and a WR playing QB in a bowl game. It literally was put together with the transfer portal and duck tape

The SECw is the weakest it’s been in a long time. None of LSU’s wins look impressive anymore except Alabama, and even the Tide are a shell of what used to be. That loss to Tennessee looks even worse now since they fell apart at the end. But, Kudos to Kelly to get LSU to a point where they could compete in year 1 after rebuilding a decimated roster.

Now on to Daniels…no doubt he has his strengths, but he hardly qualifies as a “dual-threat.” He’s an athlete that happens to play QB. Here’s something for you stat guys: 30 pass completions at 10 yards a pop? That’s 300 yards per game. That’s 3,000 in 10 games. And a ten yard pass is easier to complete than a 20+ yard pass, so there’s a chance for a high completion rate as well. So, JD looked good on paper because he dinked and dunked all season. But, on the field? So many wasted opportunities because he refused to throw down field. Defenses kept creeping up because of it and he still wouldn’t sling it. This is not the quality of a good QB. Take your rose-colored glasses off and see him for what he is. I’d be surprised if he got drafted higher than the 4th round, let alone as a QB.

I don’t disagree, but he’s not what we need in 2023. No one expected us to do anything this year.

Now compare these stats with 20+ yd throws vs completions.

Alabama QB's were sacked 20 times and they averaged 5.59 YPC (4th in the nation)

Georgia QB's were cacked 7 times and averaged 5.53 YPC (6th in the nation)

LSU QB's were sacked 45 times (125th in the nation) and averaged 4.84 YPC (37th in the nation)

You think maybe this explains Denbrock's play calling in 2022 and why Daniels was best suited to run it?

Instead of comparing Daniels to Bennett and Young, why isn't he being compared to Anthony Richardson?

Daniels 254/371 2,774 yards 68.5% 16 TD 3 INT 143.88 PR
Ricardson 176/327 2,549 yards 53.8% 17 TD 9 INT 130.96 PR

Daniels averaged 13.85 rushing attempts per game for 62.9 YPG
Richardson averaged 8.58 rushing attempts per game for 54.5 YPG
Florida's OL averaged 5.51 YPC (8th in the nation) and only 17 sacks.

.....and Richardson is being touted as a Top 10 pick in most NFL mock drafts.

They overachieved in 2022. What makes you think they won’t do it in 2023. What makes y’all think he will be stagnant in 2023? He is progressing in the offense. Does he have flaws yes, did joe burrow have flaws, yes. Did Peyton manning in his prime have flaws yes. They all do. It’s normal. If he progresses in the off-season like he should this offense will be even more dangerous. I like our chances
