9 games in 13 days to start the season seems like a lot.
Could be a trying stretch if we have to rely on a bunch of freshman and inexperienced arms.
But one thing this type of series does is it duplicates (x2) what we had to do in Omaha this past CWS to make it to the finals. Not the worst thing that the team can see at a time in the season when they should be freshest and looking for contributors.

The series at Tennessee is going to be fun.

Looks to me like Jay is trying to get as many OOC games out of the way before conference play to avoid having to play two midweek games during conference play.

Is it that much different than playing a Tuesday game then Thursday conference game in the road like you are doing later in the year?

We wanted to reunite Ben Nippolt with former JUCO teammate Cadyn Schwabe.

We benefited last year from 7 inning games saving arms. We will need some of that again.

Justin Loer facing off against Xavier is a rare portal/non-conference match up that doesn't happen often. Chase Dollander faced GaSouthern the season after transferring to Tennessee. It's just weird.

I love that LSU only plays 1 Thur-Sat series (discounting the finale as always).

Stony Brook?!? Too soon!!!!
Over/under on number of Stony Brook victory lap threads posted here the week of that series?
I'm still laughing at the assclowns who were so sure we couldn't advance out of our home regional/super this past year.

I'll just go on the opposite side of the fence for conversation and say it is a good thing with the amount of arms you will have. Will be plenty of competition to be able to separate the arms you can count on. As of now you have 22 pitchers on the roster with Chase Shores not being available. Not sure how many pitchers they plan to carry next years, but if they do carry 20-21 then that is plenty arms to use early in the season.
Jay may be thinking he wants the younger pitchers to get on the mound in game situations and get some innings logged and that is the best way to do it with also having the offense being able to win games if the pitching doesn't go as planned.

You are playing the same amount of games no matter what. I don’t mind the idea of playing more of them early so during the conference season you are playing less.
There are no weeks during the conference play with two midweek games and no midweek game going into the last weekend.

It seems like Jay likes to have the starters a little more stretched out to start the year than Paul did. I could see 5 different starting pitchers being used over the course of those 8 or 9 games. It could also allow for relievers to go more than 1 inning and get almost every guy on the roster some mound time in the first couple weeks.

Correct, but this forces the coaching staff to go to more arms. If the games were spread out they could use the same arms they feel comfortable with. Will be able to see some guys get chances and show what they could do that maybe wouldn't get that opportunity with the schedule more spread out.

I think this is kind of the point. It fights against human nature to take the easy way out for the coaches and forces them to play guys that they usually wouldn’t.
I’m sure I’ll get hate for this but it is the pre conference schedule so actually winning or losing the games is secondary to developing your team for conference play.

Nice. Thanks.
Can't wait to make the trip down to Houston.

I hope they bring back Skenes, Crews, and any of the other champions the weekend of Florida.
