The posts and topics look eerily similar to 2017 after we lost to McNeese, UNO, Tulane, and lost 2 of our first 3 SEC series.... what happened the 2nd half of that year? With all the melts happening before we've even gotten through 25% of SEC play, and us only being 1 game out of first... you guys are making me think this could be a year like 2017. Hell, we have 4 of our top 6 bats from 2017 still on the roster. Wild! Just wait till the young guys start coming around because we will be throwing up some some bombs. Keep the melts coming cause this team is staked and we will be ridding com May. Bookmark it.

Yeah a lot of people were calling it quits for that team in 2017 and then we were oh so close to winning the natty that year. Once the pitching staff gets healthy, and the bats start becoming more consistent, this will be a very good baseball team

Midweek melts are the best

Its all going to click at the right time
This weekend will be tough but there’s still a lot of baseball left to play

The team will be fine. My issue is the position they put themselves in year after year because it takes them so long to get going.

I totally agree. Everyone wanted to fire our coach in 2017 and hire the one from Mississippi State. Look what happened with him.

I don't think it's just a midweek melt. If they don't figure out this hitting thing then we're in for a rough season.

Biggest difference in that team and this year
Lange
Freeman
Robertson
Poche
Deichmann
Pap
Newman
All leaders that the rest of the team followed and played their arse off for.

And that was while LSU & Mainieri went 5-0 that season (2017) against Cannizaro.

Cabrera
Watson
Fontenot

This team has veteran leaders as well. Henry has really stepped up also. When we get Hill back we'll have a full weekend rotation of guys who can go 7+ dominant innings any given day. That's not even counting Walker and Hilliard.

The problem with this team is the abomination that is the back half of that lineup. If mathis goes on a Pap-like hitting tear and literally 1 other guy steps up we could be very dangerous.

A week ago many said we just needed to win 1/3 at UGA. We did that and were one clutch hit (and a robbed 2 run HR) away from winning 2/3. Now the sky is falling.

Raph Rhymes was a .500 hitter when he wasn't GIDPs.

Baseball finds a way to average things out. Closest thing to a perfect sport we have.

Easy to forget all the walkoff wins we've already had and not remember that we needed them to win vs what should have been inferior opponents.

Nowhere to go but down when you start out at the top too.

Bottom of LSU's lineup hasn't been this bad in a while is the most worrisome thing I see thus far. That and Garza.

I always approach baseball losses differently. It's just such a hard sport to predict how a team is gonna finish. The team can get hot and explode at any point and make a run.

However the hitting or the lack of hitting does concern me.

Now with Garza taking over catcher I think that's going to help long term.

Broussard is a better hitter than Hughes so maybe thatll help turn things around too.

Which just leaves beloso who I think will still be around .250 with possibly 8-10 Homeruns. I'm good with that

But we need do need to see them string together hits in a timely fashion

why? He can’t hit because opposing pitchers know to just throw him break balls out of the zone to swing at and he’s been rusty as best behind the plate so far

My observation regarding Garza is he's weaker than Mathis at blocking balls and keeping the ball in front of him.

Both of McNeese's runs last night came off of wild pitches with men on third base that Garza blocked at an angle rather than squaring up his shoulders to keep the ball in front of him.

Hes a better hitter than Mathis at this stage in his career. And yes he struggles with off speed pitches.

But hes better than Mathis at this stage. And also Mathis has been struggling behind the plate.

Mathis can't throw anyone out. Hes struggled behind the plate lately.

That was Garzas first full game this season.

It's pretty strange to have 2 former catchers on staff and have defensive issues behind the plate for 2 years in a row.

2019 vs. 2017... baseball

I made this post yesterday comparing the two so while I agree with the premise of your post the pollsters now vs then agree now with LSU fans that this team doesnt look the same. They are missing a clear something that at least the 2017 team had. LSU started this shitty in 2017 but was still ranked in the top 15. After this weekend, we wont even be ranked anymore after starting the year #1 overall. Its clear this team doesnt have the "it" factor that theyve always been able to turn on in the second half of other seasons.
