The incoming class is average. He's going to need to hit on the portal.

The class he just signed was a top 20 and look how that has turned out

But I agree, the portal will determine how competitive LSU is next year. The loss of KJ after this year will put even more pressure to land bigger fish and develop some of the current young crop.

If/when we EVER get the hoops program rolling again, the support DWARFS what you have with baseball. There were times during the Curley days when basketball was BIGGER than football at LSU (back in the Shaq and CJ days). If you build it they will come.

The guy that can’t coach, only recruit. And can’t do that without cheating and being an idiot.

Sure, bring him back.

They were actually playing way above themselves earlier in the year. I love CMM’s coaching and this downturn does not surprise me one bit. We do have the NCAA looming and rebuilding this roster will not be comparable to most situations with that. I am hoping we are in the mix to make ncaa tourney next year. Top 25ish the year after like another poster already mentioned.

Brady recruited well with "Draconian Sanctions" hanging over the program.
Is there another "Stromile" in the state?

Imo if we were to hire a new coach, Scott Woodward needs to throw the bank at Coach Sampson from the University of Houston. A successful, well known great coach and recruiter that won't say no to an offer from LSU that Houston can't match. LSU will always be a football first school, but the right coach that can wake up this sleeping giant, the Deaf Dome be a thing of beauty and Gives us fans something to look forward to after football season is over.

I hope you're talking about Kellen, the son, but you said throw the bank, so im assuming you are talking about established coach Kelvin Sampson, the dad. The dude is going to be 68 years old this year.

If he can’t make this a winner by year 3 then he isn’t made out for the sec and will never win.

The lingering NCAA sanctions probably isn’t helping recruiting, but rebuilding a basketball team doesn’t take 3 years.

We literally just had a football team rebuilt instantly. No sense in thinking it can’t be done in a sport that requires significantly fewer players and less depth.

The football team still had plenty of talent, though. The basketball team had absolutely nothing whatsoever. Even if you're correct that it doesn't USUALLY take 3 years to rebuild a basketball program, you have to acknowledge that these dont even remotely resemble usual circumstances. McMahon is in year 1 of taking over a program that was torn down to the studs. He was a brand new coach who was tasked with assembling LITERALLY AN ENTIRE ROSTER through the portal. That's a massive difference from even taking over a team hurting badly for depth. For him to have had this team even on the edges of the top 25 would've taken a legitimate all-time rebuild job--like one of the greatest ever. It's absolutely embarrassing to see people blame him for this mess. Anyone who was expecting better is an absolute moron of the highest order.
