Per 247Sports, 19-of-30 five-star prospects in the 2020 class signed with one of Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State or LSU.
This stat is remarkable, if not necessarily surprising. Perhaps an even more eye-opening number, nearly half of the top 100 prospects on 247Sports -- 47 of 'em -- ended up with one of the five above programs. As four-star QB Carson Beck (who signed with Georgia) put it, we're dealing with an "arms race" at the top. The unfortunate offshoot of this is that the ultimate Playoff field each fall is limited to just a handful of potential combatants. The talent gap just continues to widen.

Looks like the status quo at the top is not changing anytime soon .

He’s in a hotbed of recruiting. Within 5-6 hours of Athens is a majority of the nations top players.

It has always been this way they just didn’t have the metrics to show for it.

Tennessee went down Georgia went up
LSU went up when UA was down and we have been able to get back up. Put AU and LSU against BAMA and you have the see saw of the west.
If TAM goes up it means that OU and UT will go down. There is only room for 5-6 elite teams and 10 near elite teams.

Yet the superbowl had 18 starters who were 2 star or unranked players coming out of HS.

Kirby is the best recruiter in the nation.

Then follow that up with Saban, Dabo and Coach O.

UGA has to be the most underachieving program in the history of CFB

Agreed. UGA sits strategically located to many of the nations top recruits. It is mind boggling that they don’t have national titles by now with that talented a roster

The sport is designed to come down to the top 4 teams playing for it all. In that respect, it works as designed. I certainly enjoyed the sport this season.

The funny thing is the 2017 class that finished 7th many would have whinged about, but that is the most impactful class I’ve seen. (The same year the HC was fired).
Delpit, Stevens, chaisson, Deculus, Shevlin, Phillips, Vincent, Ingram, Charles, CEH, Queen, Jefferson and more.
We all thought losing Akers, Marvin Wilson, Moses was the end of the world. But Coach O built arguably the best team ever from that recruiting class. One recruit isn’t going to change the world, coach O knows what his doing.

This is why I hesitate to open up paying players openly for any reason, it's going to be the same schools willing to get the top players "paid" whatever it takes and the lesser schools not willing to match which could excerbate this.

I get the players feeling slighted not getting a piece of the pie as athletic departments and coaches get rich, but man, could make the sport so unbalanced to the point we basically have to create new divisions because the mid-majors and smaller P5's have no way to compete really with that and suffer even further as a result.

They've expanded outside of that too. Their top recruit in the class is from Arizona.
Below is a break down of their class's recruits by state.

Georgia (8)
Florida (5)
Louisiana (3)
Texas (3)
California (2)
Arizona (1)
District Of Columbia (1)
Nevada (1)
New Jersey (1)

It'd be awesome if Ohio State, Clemson, and Oklahoma had to battle conference foes who were also talented.
