Yet the superbowl had 18 starters who were 2 star or unranked players coming out of HS.

That really has nothing to do with overall team rankings in college. On an individual basis basis, stats might not mean much, but when comparing team rankings the recruiting rankings fairly well match the end of year results.

It’s alarming. The top recruits are funneled into these same schools and to other mostly southeast schools. It’s not good for national interest. I don’t want college football to be a regional sport.

It’d be helpful if the Pac12 would start trying again. Particularly USC. Real bad sign when California talent won’t even stay over there.

At a time when football is being played less by kids and the sport is concerned about head injuries, it’s bad to have the same schools in the playoff every year.

If TA&M goes up, it will hurt LSU some. We are definitely after the same guys and focusing on some of the same regions of the country. I know we hit Houston hard, but Texas in general has always been good to us recruiting wise. Jimbo knows how to recruit and knows how to cgeat. We need Jimbo to get caught.

I listen to Recruiting Nation as I am coming home from work on Wednesdays on Sirius ESPN 84 with Tom Luginbill and not sure on the exact stat but it was of the top 25 in California, USC signed like 1. Not good.

Kirby is the best recruiter in the nation.
Obviously, he pays these kids to come there and has learned from the best(Saban) on how to cover his tracks. But he still underachieves just like Mark Richt in getting these kids to the championship level.

It is mind boggling that they don’t have national titles by now with that talented a roster

My best guess is that they are not getting the right chemistry or leadership being developed at UGA. On paper, they're as good as anyone, but perform very poorly in the biggest games. They're the anti-Clemson.

Georgia haul is insane.

But remember - Kirby is their coach.

I predict their new OC Monken is going to be the final piece to their championship puzzle.

I mentioned this a month ago when one of the main top scout guys at 247 had his own personal rating and the top 8 all were committed to Bama, Clemson, and Ohio St.

It's always been an arms race, but Clemson did build their program on top 12-15 ranked talent, not top 10. Of course though, during that span, VT and FSU were the only real competition in the league worth anything. It could happen with Oregon and USC in the Pac. USC needs the right coach and Oregon needs a good OC.

ETA on my arms race comment. When I say ALWAYS, I mean it. If decades back there were never more than 6-8 teams who were truly battling for the top of CFB in any decade.

No, it's not. There is no discernible difference between 1-5 in the recruiting rankings and not a huge difference in 1-10.

I am a believer in recruiting rankings and they are fairly correct on average, but I have no faith the services can dial it down to the detail needed to tell me with any degree of certainty that any of the Top 5 or so are "on another level".

That's just assigning them a level of expertise that they have not earned or shown.

I don't care what you say, there is a massive difference between a top 3 recruiting class and the #10 recruiting class.

Clemson did what they did because they don't have to play anybody all year. They got damn good coaching and some playmakers on both sides yes, but they don't have to face much competition all year.

dylan moses vs queen.... push...

Maybe I'm a bit biased but I'll take Queen 6 days a week and twice on Sunday over Moses. Why? Because Queen plays with the toughness that Moses is lacking!

Queen is a junkyard dog, where Moses is best in show!

It’s not that different than it’s ever been. CFB has always been the domain of a relatively select few. Some new program may enter the scene while a traditional power slips. Clemson is the new FSU or Miami right now but before FSU and Miami entered the scene they were nothing. Texas and USC are down right now but they’ll be back at some point.

There will never be parity between conferences or within conferences.

Wow, amazing stat and how a team finishes yearly in the rankings does matter, hard to argue.

Do you trust the recruiting services to tell you who is 3 and who is 10?

I’m 2016, Florida State was 3 and Clemson was 11. Ole Miss was 5 and Texas was 7.

In 2017, Southern Cal was 4 and Clemson was 16. Yes, Clemson had a small class that year, but Stanford had a small class too with a higher player average rating.

LSU was 7 in 2017.

It’s fun to look at but not very accurate.
