Kirby is the best recruiter in the nation.

The primary reason why Kirby has been so successful is that UGA spends about three times the money as LSU and other powers like Oklahoma spends. Hence, clearly LSU needs to play catch up big time.

Meanwhile, Saban and Dabo do not disclose the amount of money they spend.

In addition, Dabo just recently reached the upper echelon of recruiting due to their recent success in the playoffs, but before that, Clemson used to hover around 15th.

Don't know the answer to that but take a look at this:
2017:Georgia top 3 recruits
1- Justin Fields 5* QB Transferred to Ohio State
2- Cade Mays 5* OT Transferring to Tennessee
3- Brenton Cox 5* OLB Transferring to Florida

2018: 4* S Otis Reese Transferring to Ole Miss

The list goes on

So, the reasons seem specific and personal.

1- Justin Fields 5* QB Transferred to Ohio State...Obviously competition and wanted playing time...Fields got that at Ohio State.
2- Cade Mays 5* OT Transferring to Tennessee...UGA is loaded on the OL...Mays probably got burried in the depth chart and wanted more playing time...he can get that at Tenn.
3- Brenton Cox 5* OLB Transferring to Florida...seems to have had off the field issues that impacted his eligibility at UGA. Couple that with the lack of potential playing time he entered the transfer portal. He seems to have gotten his eligibility in order to play for UF in a year.

2018: 4* S Otis Reese Transferring to Ole Miss...playing time.

Georgia's recruiting rankings over the years -

2012 - 9th
2013 - 12th
2014 - 8th
2015 - 6th
2016 - 6th
2017 - 3rd (Kirby's first class)
2018 - 1st
2019 - 2nd
2020 - 1st

There is a very clear and significant uptick in Georgia's recruiting prowess since Kirby arrived.

Ha nah

You truly think he’s a better recruiter than Dabo, Coach O, and Saban?

Don’t be stupid. All about $$$. Obviously I’m talking about $ off the books.

They’re playing with an = bankroll to Bama and Texas A&M

Clemson a close 2nd in $ but has multiple recent championships and Dabo.

LSU in the 2nd tier of $. Need to spend more or get more to spend.

Wait until we can start officially paying players. These smaller schools wont be able to keep up. Not many teams can match the budgets these top programs have.

Correct there was an uptick though how significant is debatable. 2 or three well place recruits can make a huge difference. The trend was already upward going from 12 to 8 to two seasons of 6 then 3 then 1 then 2 then 3. Not surprising the infusion of a new guy who was already a good recruiter from the dominant program in the dominant division of the dominant conference might be able to build on that. Particularly when that path to the SEC championship game seems easier than on the other side of the conference.

I’m not trying to dismiss Smart’s achievements, I just saying they are not as surprising as some say. They are remarkable, though.

LSU pulled in a great class this year, but what Clemson/Alabama/Georgia are doing is on another level.

No, it's not. There is no discernible difference between 1-5 in the recruiting rankings and not a huge difference in 1-10.

I am a believer in recruiting rankings and they are fairly correct on average, but I have no faith the services can dial it down to the detail needed to tell me with any degree of certainty that any of the Top 5 or so are "on another level".

That's just assigning them a level of expertise that they have not earned or shown.

Me too. 2007 took years from my life but that season was amazing, not just LSU. Compare that to the last 2 were Clemson playing shite teams was already penciled in before they played a down. Boring.

And it hasn't really shown on the field.

Richt's last 4 years: 40-13
Kirby's First 4 years: 44-12

And that's with the East being as bad as it has ever been.

Majority? Doesn’t include LA, TX, south FL or CA

I get your point but it’s an exaggeration to say majority of the best players leaving out even LA and TX.

They have a great campus and are accessible for East Coast kids that want to play in the SEC, but I’ll take our 5-6 hour radius over theirs

Agreed, that’s part of what I was trying to get at, if the on field product continues to disappoint, the recruiting momentum will go right back to richter level or lower. Still good but not quite elite.

There are 20 ish teams in that league but really only like 4 teams that can put together the talent to compete, the other 16 are essentially hopeless

Leicester City says Hi. Haha

I completely agree though. So long as were in that top 4, I really cant complain. It looked like we were about to drop out of it for a few years, but CEO has us trending in the right way.

So instead of all out paying players they could let player make money on their likeness through the schools marketing department sold at licensed dealers etc... I hated seeing Jefferson and others wait till basically declaring to make money off their likeness tshirts etc.

Ha! Truth be told I’m barely an EPL fan but I know and watch enough to see what’s clearly happening. I hope for more LCs making splashes, gives teams hope which might translate to more parity.

And I agree about being a have instead of a have not. It’s nice, but I can’t help but wonder if this trend (rich getting richer) is a problem.
