What I came to post. UW guy was even on recruiting board bragging about it. I usually laugh off all the "ESPN hates LSU" stuff, but this is definitely bewildering. Why would they spash us all over the network negatively and not do the same to other schools?

I think offering an 8th grader is not a good idea. What does a 13 year old know about a decision they will make 4 years from now? I have no problem with coaches selling their program at a camp but no need for official offers or recruiting in middle school. Something is creepy about adults falling all over 8th graders.

At least get the facts right Screaming A. Smith. It's only a scholarship offer, not a commitment.

FYI, if you clicked this link, ESPN won.

So true. Just linking to it gives them a boost because of T.D.s page rank. Just ignore that crap.

ESPN shows games of 12 yr. olds in the Little League World Series, and will probably interview them between innings.

When an stud is 6'0 215 and runs a 4.4 with a 36" vertical and a 9 ft broad...he will get PLENTY of D1 offers..this one just happens to be younger than most at achieving those stats

Hometown kid who loves LSU and has a great father doing things right.....of course we should offer!

Didn't watch the vidoe. Not going to. 3 pages of post and still don't see any comments that allude to why this is somehow wrong. How is it wrong? Does an offer from LSU come with drugs or something? I can't think of any way that this is destroying the kids life?

Its not really new for sports columnists to complain about schools offering kids in middle school just the first time LSU's been involved. ESPN did the same when Tim Floyd offered Ryan Boatright and Billy Gillespie offered Michael Avery. How those coaches and players stories played out is the reason columnists will always complain about it.

Steven "arse" smith is a blow hard that yells to attract viewers. Never enjoy listening to this idiot but today he was over the top LSU hatin. He's the loudmouth shite talker that can never back up shite, wish we could punch him in the mouth collectively, then feed him to Mike.

But seriously if this kid keeps growing and stays healthy he will likely be an all SEC D end for sure. Great job coaches!

So first they argue that its because of the mental state of a 14y/o fb player but then say its ok for basketball to recruit 13y/o AAU players.

I once saw an 8th grader that everyone knew was a D1 4star type player....a man among little boys

He started RB for Wake Forest for 4 years...

Being the first to offer makes a big impact....

It's college football....
