With O getting canned?

Admittedly, I was a bit worried about it as well. Even when Kelly was announced, I had my concerns about he and his potential staff's ability to recruit the region.

Holy shite was I wrong! I'm impressed, like really fricking impressed with the way this group has hit the trail. I'm most impressed with Polian and Arcement. We knew what we were getting with Frank, but I had no clue with these two dudes. WOW.

I don't remember being worried about anything related to Orgeron getting fired.

Don’t sleep on Hankton, Sloan, and Steeples either.

I think that's the best part, honestly. There aren't any liabilities on the recruiting trail. They're all good.

I conceded that this years class would be crap when O got fired, but I felt confident CBK would bring it top guys. So glad to have been proven wrong as CBK has really filled needs much quicker than I thought he could.

You may not have been but this board consistently talked about how BK inst a recruiter. The Rant went off on BK on his first few days of even being a coach because Napier was already in-home recruiting and BK wasnt.

I was quietly worried that we’d get a year behind. But 20 minutes after Cbk was hired, I thought:

Whelp, that’s my coach.

And I wasn’t worried about recruiting as much as I was focused on who he hired.

Everything came out juuuuust fine.

But then he hits the portal. This has been a great two months.

Just enjoy the fact that this could have gone really bad, but instead it happened to go better than you could have expected.

Foolish to count any chickens before ink is on paper. A lot of money is being thrown around right now.

I 100% agree. It's the best approach to take.

You know what's one thing I'm more excited about with some of the players who transferred out/in?

We replaced some out-of-state players with players who went somewhere else, proved themselves, and are coming home. It just means more coming out of the tunnel in Death Valley for a kid who grew up in Louisiana than it does for a kid who was highly recruited from another state and had never worn purple and gold before.

I think it’s OK to admit that Orgeron’s firing probably set us back on early signing day. We had 4 decommits between the firing and ESD: Johnson, Anderson, Citizen, and Crawford. The only one who didn’t sign elsewhere in ESD was Citizen. Granted, Johnson was a bit of a different situation with his brother transferring.

You also have to look at the uncommitted players we were still heavily recruiting who decided to sign elsewhere in December. It was always going to be difficult for the new staff to make up ground that quickly.

The short recruiting cycle of the transfer portal has worked out in our favor, and BK seems to be doing a great job of plugging the holes. But this high school class probably still took a decent hit IMO. It’s hard to say for sure because you don’t know how much of it was due to the shitty on-field performance vs. coaching changes.

That’s not a knock on BK at all - I think he’s doing a hell of a job playing the hand he was dealt. That’s just the reality of making coaching changes with the early signing period nowadays.

I remember when a lot of knee-jerkers here were worried about recruiting but not a collective "we" or "all." Many of us know how this works.

I remember others going into panic mode after ESD. It was hilarious.

TBH the panic was on the main board. The level heads who understand recruiting cycles were never hysterical. Losing a few receivers to go be backups at Bama was never a reason to melt.

When you make a coaching change you have to look long
term. One recruiting class will not make or break a program.
Getting the right coach is the most important thing.
BK has done a tremendous job so far and the future looks bright. O`s 2nd class was not up to LSU standards and he
still won it all by using the portal and getting the right
players in place.BK is light years a much better program
manager than EO.
