do we really need Serbs and senegalese-italians over javonte and big baby?
what are we doing here?
40% of the 30 1st round picks last year were players that were natives of countries other than the USA. The game has become increasingly international, and that isn’t likely to change anytime soon. A big reason is because foreign players are often far better coached than their US peers. Largely because AAU and “showcase” prep schools have replaced traditional high schools as the primary developers of young players.
Like it or not, college basketball has become more “pro-like” too. So if you want to win you better adapt. Guys aren’t likely to stay much beyond a year or two. Given that reality, it’s often better to take a 23 year old physically mature player over an 18 year old who may take 2+ years to fully develop. Regardless of nationality
As for Patrick McEnroe’s lament about the lack of US tennis players in college, here’s a response to the US player…Get better! coaches just want the very best players. They don’t care where they come from.

McMahon wasn’t capable of landing Cenac.
Considering he was going up against Kelvin Sampson, McMahon had NO SHOT. Absolutely none.
McMahon’s prize recruit in four years was DJ Thomas.

Another thing about the foreign players and the NBA draft is they are less likely to cause any major problems.
The foreign players are much more mature and business like.
25% of all starters in the Final Four were born outside of the United States. There were 403 players born outside of the U.S. and Canada that played over 25% of a Division-I team's possessions last year, which is by all accounts a new record.

I understand that. I am not sure if I like it.
I think ideal system is probably the European system, promotion/relegation, signing pros as kids, no silly pretense of student athletes. make universities actually about education and destroy the whole system.
I would still cheer for the baton rouge team even if they don't pretend to be students.

I think if govt funds are for educating Americans we should care where our student-athletes are from.

Govt doesn’t fund Div 1 sports. In fact at LSU and other P5 teams it’s the opposite to some degree. Sports directly or indirectly gives money back to the school.

the govt funds the university. its meant to educate.
the school could run a widget factory and make money, does not mean it should be a university task.
why should universities have pro teams affiliated? should LSU buy the saints and make even more money?

Aren’t we missing a couple facts here? Cenac wasn’t from a basketball dynasty, or a school known for the sport, but from a couple hs classes in the same area tied to a couple folks. I don’t know if cww had a chance at Cenac.

You absolutely stated no facts. Cenac went to Newman the same school as Randy Livingston who is basketball dynasty himself even with the injuries. And Newman is home to the Mannings and Odell Beckham they played a little ball before.

So how does the 5 for 5 rule affect euro players? Is it a age limit?
Yes, IIRC it is 5 years from HS graduation or 19th birthday.

Dude I barely passed 7th grade. But no that Newman school had more than Cenac. My non fact staying self was providing an opinion. I don’t believe any coach at lsu could have recruited Cenac. Once again, 7th grade.

Wade certainly would have had a shot. It's not like Cenac was the first 5 star prospect Wade had recruited or signed. Hell, before he was fired, Wade had a 5* prospect (Julian Phillips) from same prep school Cenac attended (Link Academy) committed to LSU.

Dennis Parker Jr just committed to Kansas. Won’t be surprised if we bring in Abdi Bashir if Wade really wants him. Don’t know of any other teams involved for him outside of Kansas and LSU, and now Kansas is probably out with that move

A Temu Paul McNeil, but still one of the best 3 pt shooters in the portal. It feels like he is almost a must for Wade, given the weakness of the international guards and what's left in the portal. Would probably be an elite scorer in Wade's system, but is just as horrible on defense.

I'd like Bashir,
but it looks like the priority number 1 at guard is to get Hampton in and have him reclassified.
