Ole Miss also had an Aussie player cleared who entered in 2024 withdrew and was automatically entered in 2025, went undrafted.

Auburn has a player who has been cleared by the NCAA who was a 2nd round pick in the 2026 Draft. Though he was auto enrolled in the draft due to age. (NCAA also gave him 2 years).

but now there are reports that he voluntarily entered the NBA draft early and didn't withdraw. That would make him ineligible under the SEC rule.

Which, again, is a post hoc arbitrary rule that the SEC does not even uniformly apply to all sports.

HS baseball players get drafted every year yet are allowed to play baseball in the SEC. Hell, they get drafted WHILE they are playing SEC baseball and can still continue to play.

"Oh, but you see. That's different. Baseball players don't have to 'declare' for the draft".

Niang never played college basketball. So that means until two months again when the SEC haphazardly created a rule, he did not give up his eligiblity. This is essentially the SEC's "declaration" standard:

That's how I see it too. By having their name automatically entered into the draft, the player did not voluntarily give up remaining eligibility.

Hockey players get drafted and the teams retain their rights for several years without losing eligibility. It becomes a yearly question for the top players as to whether they're going to exercise their pro contract or stay in school another year.

Each sport needs to be handled differently because the pro versions all arrived at their player procurement process independently of each other and collectively bargained with their player unions.

The rule was an emotional reaction to Sankey getting his arse handed to him in a Baton Rouge courtroom. It was poorly drafted.

That being said, there is no way they are going to enforce it against Niang, because it would require the conference to enforce it against Kentucky in the exact same scenario.

I like this if it's true. Whatever our move, we should not kowtow to these assholes if we're in the right.

apparently looking stupid doesn't really matter to Stinkey and the SEC.

I’ll be curious if we have any more “cleared to play” announcements today ahead of the UCF exhibition.

In one instance, basketball and football, you have guys telling "declaring" to the NBA and NFL "hey, I'd like to be drafted".

In the other instance, baseball, the players aren't specifically saying they want to be drafted by an MLB team...but they do want to be drafted.

That's why the "declare" standard is stupid. I'm totally fine with a rule that if a player signs a pro-contract, of any nature, that he loses eligibility to play college sports...across the board. That means no more international pros, no more minor league baseball players who couldn't cut it now going to college to punt, no more G-league flunkies, none of it.

But they constantly carve out exceptions. If being drafted is the standard, then it should apply uniformly. Football, baseball, basketball, etc.

Absolutely correct! The foundation of the rule should be not allowed people in college sports who have a clear cut advantage over college players. Playing, practicing & getting daily training from a pro staff gives that advantage. Weather you declared or your age was stuck on auto draft does not provide an advantage!

In other related news, here is someone live tweeting from the courtroom in Kentucky where Clark’s case is being argued today. I believe this is a Preliminary Injunction hearing. Pat Kelsey and Dennis Gates have testified. According to this person, the NCAA’s attorney could not actually locate the rule he was asking questions about and resorted to googling the rule while trying to cross examine Gates.

If we can get a Preliminary Injunction in place before tipoff maybe Clark can log some minutes tonight.

Yep. Nothing looks worse than being unprepared in the courtroom.

Lmao Pat Kelsey and Dennis Gates are apparently shredding the NCAA lawyers.

The Kentucky History account is saying they were only allotted 3 hours so the hearing should be over soonish.

No idea. From what i can tell reading that kentucky twitter account, they are obviously incredibly biased to the athletes. As expected. It may get an injunction, but the appeal will tell the story

It is my understanding he was seeking an age based waiver as well, so it’s not clear whether the NCAA denied based on age.
