McMahon is not being used as a "villain". His name is being used to contextualize the disingenuousness of those "concerned" and "worried" about the current state of things under Wade, when a single game has yet to be played, while previously showing little to no concern or worry about the prior coach who did nothing but lose at an historic clip for 4 years.

"What is Wade doing?! We only have 4-5 players 3 months before the start of the season! We are going to be the worst team in the SEC!"

"McMahon should get another season. Look at his recruiting class! This will be his best team at LSU. Sure, he's been the least successful LSU coach in decades, maybe ever. But it's really not his fault. THIS year will change that. I know it!"

They're not concerned and worried. They're baseball bros that want the basketball program to stay in the tank, clinging to the desperate hope that baseball will remain #2 on the totem pole at LSU in terms of fan popularity. And once Wade gets basketball rolling, IT WON'T stay #2.

It never has and never will receive the funding basketball does, because basketball is one of the 2 sports more than a small percentage care about nationally.

Also, take note of the number of upvotes whenever someone suggests we bring Max McKinnon back. A decent player, but certainly not the next Larry Bird. I have a feeling if ole Max stayed in the sun a while longer, he wouldn't be quite as popular with the fan base. .

Any chance lsu lands Javon Bardwell?

He decommitted from Kansas and is reclassifying to 2026.

His decommitment and reclass appear to be driven by the new 5-for-5 rule. It's highly unlikely he stays in college for 5 years, but he is old enough that, under the rule, he would only be eligible for 4 if he didn't reclass. Texas and Louisville were big players in his recruitment. However, there are LSU rumors out there.

That doesn't make a lick of sense. Are you saying the 5 for 5 rule is only for 2026 but not going forward? WTF?

I think it means the kid is old for his class. 5 for 5 is age based and can cut a year off your career if you're way older than your class peers.

It's amusing that you believe I'm off base with that take.

I'm not.

so if Wade is confident that all will be eligible then does this mean this is the last spot that is paid decently and anyone from here on will be the emergency depth guys? He had mentioned really just paying 8-9 dudes. I am guessing the UTSA transfer is not one of those. With the new commitment that would make 9 "paid" main guys.

I'm one of the people that thought we should keep CMM for another year, but I certainly didn't "know" whether it would work. I didn't think we could pay the huge buyout and still fund an adequate NIL, so I thought we would have a better season with more money and some luck, but once boosters were willing to pay the buyout and still provide a big NIL budget, then I was onboard.

CMM is the past, but the current situation isn't about the past. It isn't about CMM nor Wade. It wouldn't matter who the coach was of a team that has only officially announced 4 players 11 days before school starts. If a person was not being disingenuous, they would admit to being concerned by that. Just because the past was a mess, it not should be used to justify the present mess. Maybe LSU isn't being transparent, and the reality isn't a mess, but the publicly available information suggests that it is a mess. We all hope that it will work out, but it is ridiculous to deny that it isn't looking good.

Lot's of people have all the answers man, truly no one will ever know what the answer is about MM until he fails somewhere else. People love to talk about how bad Woody was and since NIL numbers are not disclosed, no one will truly know how "in over his head" MM really was. Or the cards he was dealt, or not dealt. Lots of variables people aren't considering because they feel forced to choose sides, but no one knows. Things can change either way. Just sit back and watch. It's idiots like him(and others) that think they have all the answers and only consider their own point of view.

I don't understand why you don't understand that describing mitigating circumstances doesn't mean we love McMahon. It does seem that some people hate McMahon, while some just don't believe he could be successful in the SEC, since they believe he doesn't have what it takes, which is a reasonable position. What isn't reasonable is to deny the issues that impacted his success that were outside of his control. It isn't binary. I don't love McMahon, and I also don't love Wade. I love the team, but I hope Wade is successful.
