FYI, we will not be giving a scholarship to a kicker ranked 51st in their rankings.
I wish the OP had enough sense to not put five star in the title and then to explain what 5-star meant. But I assume the OP didn't even realize the context of the 5 star rating.

They just did a feature on his signing on the local news here in San Diego. I think he said his longest made FG was a 67-yarder.

Mata signed an offer for an academic scholarship to LSU. He hopes to earn a full athletic scholarship once he plays for the Tigers.

Old thread to bump, but this is amazing. I took my son to the LSU camp last year and Mata was there. Got to watch him kick all day. Talked to, I assume his dad, had no idea they came from San Diego.
We just assumed there were no big-time recruits, but damn. The article even notes that their decision was partly based on how he performed there, that’s going to be really exciting for my son.
My son kicks a good bit, but I’ll have to get him tuned up for this years camp. He enjoyed last years so damn much, this article is going to blow his mind.
Have to figure out what recruiting camps to send him to in the future, there are so many and they’re so expensive.

You do realize most games he was punting from near mid field so average per kick is irrelevant,
If the gunner had at least taken BAMA's Waddle down when he grabbed the face mask and spun him the average return yardage would have been below 5 per return.
Von Rosenberg is an excellent punter and will not be replaced this season by a freshman. Now they need to refine his fake punt play and let him use that baseball pitcher's arm to advantage.
