It's kinda of weird Yamin is not playing summer ball yet. This isn't to rag on him, but he could not hit in both offseason sessions last year, which i why i assume he RS'ed.

Considering every guy who received an early assignment transferred, I’m assuming Jay wanted to keep the team together during the run. He specifically mentioned Yamin in the presser as an example of the teams character and how he keeps things upbeat.

Sheerin is pitching in the cape. Also did not play all year.

Have to assume that Jay thought it was a larger benefit to have Yamin in the dugout being he was a glue/hype type of guy. For Yamin as a player there is no doubt getting reps in summer ball would have been more beneficial to his development but to this team it seemed more important to have him there.

A 3rd catcher isn't a bad idea either. Idk how injury rules work on the postseason roster, but if someone goes down, you're gonna need a backup there and Priester was already in the portal. Not disagreeing with what the last few posts have said either though

Just a random thought - Portal season is fun as hell, but retaining a guy like Jaden Noot would be bigger than 99% of SP we could land out of the portal for 2026. Hope that dude wants to go all in, win a spot in the rotation, and be a 1st round draft pick. Seems like the kind of arm talent that could make a huge jump next year with more time removed from surgery.

Honestly, i hope he stays, but i dont see him as talented enough to be more than a 3rd starter (and i dont think the potential is there to be a 1st rounder).

But def want him back

I agree.

And in general I think we all get excited about the new possibilities rather than the guys on the roster already.

Grant Fontenot also traveled to Omaha despite not being on the playing roster. His last couple outings against SEC teams were promising. I think he could contribute more out of the pen next season.

Georgia must be spending a shite ton of money in the portal this year.

Just like A&M they have to coach-proof their roster.

This definitely feels like a season where retaining players seems more crucial to next year's success than portal acquisitions or high school signers.

Frey, Noot, Cowan, Guidry, Primeaux, and Larson are the main fence guys that I'm watching. We don't have to have a lot of portal adds if we retain those guys. I think for every one you lose you will need a portal replacement though.

Grant Fontenot

I'd love to have him back and see what he can do with more innings. He was a bit wild at the beginning of the season but I felt like when he was used the few times in the middle/end of the year he looked much better.

Vs. Ten 1.1 IP, 0H, 1K, 0BB, 1HB, 16 pitches, 11 strikes
Vs. Ark 0.2 IP, 0H, 0K, 0BB, 0HB, 3 pitches, 2 strikes
Vs. SC 1.0 IP, 0H, 1K, 0BB, 0HB, 11 pitches, 7 strikes

There is a lot of pitching talent on this roster that may return. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Evans
Williams
Schmidt
Sheerin
Noot
Cowan

(Edit) And I totally left out Rizy from this group.

Would be a nice corp to build from.

If Primeaux ends up staying he absolutely has to make a jump at least for my sanity. If I see another 2 strike HBP I will lose my mind.

Definitely this. You know Jay will want to add to it. That is what is going to push a few guys out, I’d imagine.

100% agree. My opinion on Noot and his potential is pretty close to what Eyanson did this season. Not saying he will be Eyanson but he has the potential with his pitch arsenal and just the stuff to be similar to him if it all clicks. I may be in the minority of thinking that but I thought with some consistency on the mound he could start clicking more. Curious to see if and where he gets sent for summer ball.

As far as the portal I feel like all we need to do on the pitching side of things is get 1-2 LHP and 1 guy like Landon Mack who threw plenty innings and was good as a freshman with multiple years of eligibility left.

Noot could be a solid Sunday guy if he can stretch out & maintain his velo. That said, Jay is going to recruit other guys to directly be weekend starters.

i agree with this take, a little odd. I know CJJ likes what he added to the dugout so hoping he heads off to summer ball so he can get some at bats if he is healthy. He has one more year- my buddy told me he is an elite receiver and the pitchers love him, just cannot hit.
