That makes sense. This is a coaches window to trim the roster down or add if needed after the draft if it doesn’t go as planned

Last time I did this, Lachenmayer committed like an hour after

Hopefully it works for Taylor or DeCremer

Ashton Larson can't be guaranteed a starting position over freshmen. Freshmen can play. As evidence, see Ashton Larson. Lol

Circumstances around players evolve but your premise was that freshman haven’t been ready to play under Jay except 1 and I was pointing out that more than 1 freshman have.

I think Larson’s upside is extremely limited but he’s still a solid ball player but there are freshman who could likely step in and provide something closer to Derek Curiel.

Larson is about to enter his money year and being 60/40 to start at lsu (if Stanny and Frey both go) may not be as appealing as being 90% likely to start at a big 12 school or whatever

It is what it is, I’m sure Jay is well aware of Larson’s thinking on the above topic and is planning appropriately

That’s rare for a freshman like Curial homie! Nothing to do with JJ!

“Nothing to do with JJ” is a crazy statement here. Can’t get credit for anything I guess.

Must be a big fan considering you can’t even spell his name correctly…homie!

Nothing earth shattering but Jay just mentioned (miked up) they need to add a bit on the mound when referencing what he’s looking for in the portal.

It seemed like he was thinking this years portal class was a bit underwhelming. That’s been mentioned here by some of you.

He also mentioned something about there being more money in this years draft than prior years. He seemed a little concerned with hoe the hs recruiting class shakes up.

I think the 2024 freshmen got opportunities more due to lack of other options and guys who didn't live up to expectations. If Milam didn't play 2nd, the other options were Nippolt, Pearson, or another freshman. Larson and Brown finished the season 9th and 12th in PAs, Larson only ahead of the catching tandem among the starters (Neal and Milazzo were 10th and 11th).

Credit where it's due, they played well when given their shots. But I don't think that was the intention going into the season.

You're kind of right imo, but Milam in particular was having an awesome spring IIRC and many on the board thought he had a very real shot at taking over the position at some point in the year. It just so happened to be the second game of the year when he went like 4/4 or something like that and he was too good to not have out there.

Jay on Mik’d Up tonight doesn’t sound very optimistic about the draft as it pertains to the incoming freshmen

Regarding the current roster he said he feels good about where everyone is at and there’s been a lot of communication to him.
Then he pivoted to the incoming class and said something to the affect of “we might get bloodied by the draft, idk what MLB is doing but they’re throwing around some crazy money”

How are we feeling about William Patrick and Jack Ruckert as far as either the draft or how he fits into the plans if they makes it to campus

Kind of the only Louisiana guys in this cycle

I do like that we are very selective of the Louisiana guys we do get instead of loading our entire team with Louisiana guys

Joe Doyle, a draft analyst, was on the inside LSU baseball podcast and said he thinks it’s a strong chance that Patrick and Rucker’s both get to campus.

All they can do is low ball first rounders then throw the money at people later in the draft. It’s not like they can throw 4-5 mill at every player. The penalty for going over your draft cap makes it stupid to do it.
