All they can do is low ball first rounders then throw the money at people later in the draft. It’s not like they can throw 4-5 mill at every player. The penalty for going over your draft cap makes it stupid to do it.

I took it as him talking about the overall increase in draft slot money and not necessarily MLB teams just throwing money at specific players.

In just 4 years the slot values have went up pretty drastically.

2021: 1st pick slot value was 8.4 mil and the last pick 1 mil+ was pick 66.

2025: 1st pick slot value is 11 mil and the last pick 1 mil+ is pick 80.

I think what he is getting at is that it will make it more challenging to get the high school kids to campus because the amount of prospects getting over that 1 mil mark is continuing to increase rather quickly year after year.

Teams aren't afraid to go over the draft cap and pay the penalty either. Up to 5% is what you can go before you start to lose draft picks for the following year as a penalty. 0-5% over is taxed 75% for however much a team goes over. 23 of the 30 teams went over their bonus pool money last years draft.

Cade Arrambide has made it to the cape cod league playing for Chatham As which is the same team Nate Taylor is pitching for. Let's hope they can form some type of relationship. Can only help our chances.

If there was any doubt of Curiel going to cf next year:

He copy pasted a nicholastiger quote, not a real quote from anybody associated with the program.

This is maddening for college baseball fans. It’s why it’s not over until it’s over. Imagine the relief for Jay after the last pick of the draft is in.

The benefit (one of very few benefits) of the later draft is that they only have about two weeks to sign. So it doesn't drag out. They have to sign by like August 1st or something.

I was so glad when they put a “sign by” date on the draft. LSU got burned so many times in the past, as well as every other team out there.

Yea the old school letting an 18 year old think about an offer for 2.5 months over summer was stupid...let alone have the deadline weeks after they are moving onto campus.

If so I would expect them to pump up the heat on Nate Taylor even more.

Not only that, but they would break off negotiations and all contact like it was a done deal, only to contact the kid hours before the deadline with another offer.

I much prefer Taylor to Volchko, based on their actual numbers.
