I would expect we'll see more attrition from future classes. With the changing rules around roster sizes and scholarships, teams are going to have to re-think how many signees they are bringing on. Hope the kid lands in a good spot for his development.

it’s going to be really rough in players

more scholarships but less roster spots and still so much uncertainty.

i fully expect kids to get cut in the fall and have to try and find somewhere to play baseball the next semester

This might be where the JUCO and non D1 routes will come in play. They may just hold out for the trickle down and end up with decent young rosters. But who really knows

Yeah my thoughts as well. There are going to be some teams that get good players. All big teams are going to be at capacity and not have potential to take a risk on those players so the smaller universities will reap the benefits + JUCO as well.

I keep having to remind myself that these are shiny new toys, and we have, AT LEAST, 2 first round level talents in the outfield (Curiel, Brown), 3 VERY taleneted infielders (Simpson, Milam, Dardar), a couple bats that have shown promise (Pearson, Larson), an absolute shite ton of arms, and an insane class coming in.

I just had this exact conversation with a buddy. Jay has said that he likes what he currently has and what he has coming in. I do think the draft will dictate how excited I am for next season tho

I just wonder why everyone assumes Curiel is going to play CF. Brown is faster, better arm and all around outfielder. It’s both their draft year. Good problem to have I guess

Curiel played CF any time Stanfield wasn't in the game, whether or not Brown was in the game. I don't think Brown has played a single inning in CF at LSU.

Going to be different this year. Probably will only bring on another 3-4 players. With the portal closing for entries Tuesday, I kind of expected a defection or 2. No news on that end is good news.

Yeah, especially with the reduced rosters people expecting us to bring in 8-10 players from the portal this year are going to be disappointed.

Brown has played more 1B than CF

I think the number will end up being around 8 plus the 2 JUCO kids.

He started 12 games in CF in 2024. He played CF (as a sub) as recently as the South Carolina series this year.

With that said, I think Curiel would take over CF before Brown.

Oh wow, I must've blocked all that out lol. I only remember him playing RF and then 1B a couple times.

Recency bias is real, but Jay is going to get the best guys for LSU and elevate them. That’s easy to argue with 3 years of examples. It’s harder to argue that point with our top recruiting competitors right now.

DVH beat us for Root and Beidelschies. Both underperformed expectations. They certainly underperformed Anthony Eyanson.

Vitello got maybe the 3 best portal talents last year. He had Fri/Sat starters as comparable to LSU as anyone, the best lefty reliever (though he didn’t recognize it until Hoover) a stronger and deeper lineup, and still lost 7 SEC series. A weak portal will be tough for them next year.

I figure we will run into State more moving forward, but love our chances there too.

Yeah, you're right. My memory has failed me spectacularly.

I still think Curiel would be the pick over Jake in CF, but yeah I was way off.

I hope so. It was kind of a letdown when State came into BR the last few years and were just mediocre at best. It's much more fun when that series means something.

Now, that does not mean I want them to win a title or anything. Hell I don't even want them to be another good team in the league. I'd rather they just supplant a different SEC program (maybe UGA) as someone who can compete in the conference.

I feel nothing when we play UGA in baseball. An LSU-Mississippi State series has juice.

I think Curiel is way more of a natural in the OF than Jake. Jake has a better arm and may be faster, but Derek is not slow.

Is there still big time Ace Reese smoke or what?

Saw CJJ at Court to Table Friday night meeting w/ Gordon... Hopefully he's getting it done

1st please stop repeating Matt moscona when it comes to player evaluation.

Brown is not a better OF than Curiel. Curiel has was way better instincts judging & chasing fly balls. Brown is only marginally faster & his arm is just slightly better

Jake brown is an average, passable outfielder. He still has low confidence judging fly balls.
