The catcher position is a little bit of a head scratcher for me. Jones, Frey, Skenes and Travinski I believe would have some limits defensively. Milazzo has his offensive limitations and he has had his share of injuries. I don't think there is a complete player in that whole bunch.
I'm wondering if Johnson is waiting to see what happens with Neal before making a move in the portal? It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I think he’ll either bring in a true starter, put together a lineup so strong that he can live with Milazzo, or put together a lineup strong enough to get by with a combo of Milazzo and an offensive minded player.
Neal would take a roster spot from a fringe player and whatever he gives you in 2023 would be a bonus.

Fair enough. I know the pitching will play for us big time. That is what I feel his primary focus should be on. I don’t think Jay can promise him time in the lineup everyday when he isn’t pitching though. So many logjams that it would be hard to promise him that I would think.
As far as catching, I still think if Milazzo is healthy he will catch the majority of the games next season. He can be someone to just move the lineup at the bottom. Sac bunts, hitting behind tuner to move them, occasional base hit. Don’t need him to be a huge offensive contributor, just a productive one. Maybe you make sure Skenes knows that and him and Travinski can get spot starts here and there.

As a supporter of the program, Livvy Dunne could end this with a DM. Nothing big. Just an endorsement of Louisiana and I’ll see you around.

Bianco is transferring to Houston
For those that don’t know, that’s where Zach Arnold transferred to for 2022. He had a pretty decent year. He started 55/56 games for them.
.283 AVG
.800 OPS
10 HRs
45 RBIs
His biggest improvement was cutting down on strikeouts, which was his biggest problem at LSU, imo.
2021 (LSU) - 40 Ks in 155 ABs (25.8% rate)
2022 (UH) - 38 Ks in 230 ABs (16.5 % rate)
I’d assume he played a role in getting Drew over there, but without knowing coaching connections, I’d also assume Mike Bianco has a relationship with HC Todd Whitting and/or others on that staff.

Looks like UH’s pitching coach was at OM under Bianco from ‘02-‘06

Been a slow day, but that's some fantastic news!

+1 Wild. Thank you. For me step one is getting Travinski off the catcher list. Jay must really like his bat, but DH or 1B for Hayden.
You are wondering about Neal, I’m wondering if Jay just will build an offensive lineup so good that he is at peace with riding Milazzo in 50 of the regular season games. Play the long game with Alex and with enough reps the hope is that he is hitting well in June?

I saw a photo . Moffett is one large human being.

How do you feel about Moffett making it to campus? I never considered him to be a high draft risk until I saw one of your prior posts saying he was creeping up some draft boards. I think he has a ton of potential if he makes it to campus under Wes Johnson.

Spot duty at catcher
I’m getting outvoted on a possible heavy contribution at catcher, and while I may disagree. I do think that as others said , you say in your plea to the young man that you are willing to let him do what he wants. Drive the bus…check. You name it…
Get him in the uniform then sort it out later.

He is listed as 6"3' but Mahtook said he was 6"6'. Did he hit a growth spurt or is Mahtook getting a little carried away?

I would go with the latter.
I like Mahtook and his show; but he often gets carried away with things on there and says stuff that is incorrect.
If he wants to take his show to the next level, he needs to bring a little more “radio” professionalism to it. Not saying they need to stop having fun or anything like that. But they do need to prep for interviews a little better, know their facts a little more, and interview better. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard he and Lloyd talk over a person as they were asking a question to an interviewee or over the interviewee’s response. Mahtook also has a lot of “squirrel” moments in the show and during interviews.

I honestly think alot are waiting for the draft. I don’t think any of the top guys left in the portal will commit till after the draft

Correct. You have guys away at summer ball and with Team USA, and the draft looming.

Reggie Crawford is someone that I thought would commit before the draft. If nothing else, to use it as leverage.
We are still waiting on the coaching hire as well.
