I do not think I will ever forget the drama and soap opera that was the Landon Collins debacle. With his Mother wanting to make him a Tiger and his step mom and Dad pushing for Saban and Bama. All on National TV unfolding as a days of our lives episode. Truly filled with drama and embarrassment for all concerned. He later went on to win a Nattty with Bama in 2013 and was in three pro bowls with the Giants. So I think but do not actually know that $$ was a factor in his going to Bama. So same old shite different day.

Landon is one of the few that left the state for Bama that actually panned out. Although he was never committed to LSU

Jojo was a man who thought he was aTiger
But we knew it wouldn’t last.
Jojo left his home inAledo, Texas
For some Alabama grass.
Get back, get back.
Get back to where you once belonged
Get back, get back.
Get back, Jojo

I remember thinking Koht was going to be a beast. We are all just guessing. Lots of variables in play that affect outcomes.

Remember the 2 for 5 meltdown.

And now we give millions to these young high school players like they already made it in life.
Guys who don't actually care enough about playing football hardly ever work out either. Stewart quit on his friends and teammates at St. Aug. He'll do the same in college.

Well, St. Aug wouldn't let him reclassify. Being fair, when he wanted to come to LSU, no one saw him leaving St. Aug to graduate early as a problem. I do see him in the portal in the near future, not because of any personal knowledge but just looking at the state of CFB. Heck, he could have an amazing year and still go to the portal for another big payday.
Also, at the time, the melt for Earle seemed warranted. I remember watching his highlights and thinking it was probably one of the greatest WR highlight tapes I had ever seen, and I think I was watching his JR tape as well.

USC is apparently having some money problems as well so when teams come calling next year (if he plays and lives up to his build), definitely can see him on the move again from them not matching

Most of us should have tuned out then. A lot of guys get mad at these kids for choosing another school, but the truth is there is often money being thrown their way. The reality is most of the best players are from the lower middle class at best, and are trying to get the most they can for themselves and family. The only change is now the money can be offered more out in the open instead of through a bagman.

I started following recruiting in 2000-01 with Torran Williams. Before that, I just picked up pieces here and there from people I knew that followed closely. I stopped following so close around 2019-2020. I’m happy I did. I can’t imagine following so close now with NIL potentially ripping a highly touted prospect away at the last moment. I’ll root for them once I actually see them in the a jersey in the fall.
Do what u do. I love following lsu recruiting and seeing what future stars we are getting.

Serious question here. It would be a great case study to look at, but how many times has a guy that was committed to LSU or had LSU as the leader and then flipped at the end ended up being this all world player? I can’t think of many. I’m talking about in the last 20-25 years. I mean really think about it, how many guys have left us at the alter and gone on to some historic career or came close to living up to all the hype. Would be a nice deep dive research project.

Probably about the same frequency as players who stuck to their commitment and signed with LSU. Most players don’t live up to their billing. 4* and 5* players are more likely to be big time players, but they are far from a sure thing.

Pat Surtain II comes to mind
Do we count Landon Collins in the “had lsu as a leader” category? He did have a good college career and was a high draft pick.

Those 2 guys came to mind. Collins had a good college career, he was drafted in the 2nd round.
My question I would also pose to those that have left LSU in the transfer portal error. I just can’t really count many guys that I weep & grind teeth over in these 2 categories. It seems that most of the high profile guys that flip or don’t pick LSU end up not doing a whole lot and are quite forgettable.
I bring it up because there is always so much angst & disgust when we miss out on someone who was committed to us then flips, etc.

The difference between levels (HS-> College, college -> pros) success is extremely rare on talent alone. Football IQ and work ethic is typically the dividing line.
Anyone who has played sports growing up has seen the kids who didn’t have to work at it.

Yup. We got 2 of the 3 best though. The only one we really could've used was Cam Robinson. Noil and Willis were busts, but Fournette and Adams are legends at LSU now.

Aaron Anderson is one.
I cried about him going to bama too.

Heisman devonta smith would have been nice to have . But we had chase Jefferson Marshall at the time.

A top 5 pick in the NFL draft Cam Robinson, a Heisman winner Devonta Smith, RB Eddie Lacy that we got in on too late, Moses was a good player….
I hate when we act like no one who leaves is ever good.
