Maybe. Maybe not.

I don't see Ohio St., Alabama, Georgia, Michigan... taking a whole bunch of transfers. They mostly take highly rated transfers and top HS recruits. I understand different situation than us.

This year I can see us taking a whole lot of transfers for some reasons you all have mentioned and it makes sense.

But going forward do we have the same approach? Or go after HS recruits like usual?

Seems like BK was in charge, but not totally in control until the bowl game ended last night. He basically said as much in his interview.

The key; Louisiana like he said.

More Louisiana kids, less likely they transfer based on my findings

Did you not listen to him or just ran over here to complain about something?

He literally said this year we have to rebuild using transfer portal but going forward he wants to build the program using freshman classes

Because when they come in next year they’ll be freshmen and then Sophmore the next year.

You wanna win some games before 2024?

Yep, surprised this hasn't been talked about more unless I've missed it. Focusing hard on Louisana and sprinkling in select out of state recruits is going to be the way to go. Trey Palmer is a typical transfer in that he's getting passed up by younger guys and is transferring for PT, but you are far less likely to get Elias Ricks and Arik Gilberts if you heavily concentrate on Louisiana kids.

Definitely seemed to backfire on O.

He decided he wanted LSU to be a national brand and big game hunt all over the nation.

Got some amazing recruits out of it...but a lot of guys that were clearly mercenaries and jetted at the first sign of any adversity.

Louisiana kids will still transfer, but are probably less likely too.

Build that wall back up

You definitely want a base of LA a players with a heavy FL/TX supplement and then a few National guys here and there

It’s been the model for success at LSU since 2000.

There are top 100 uncommitted out there heck even top 300.

Because they aren’t all positions of need. I’d prefer grabbing players out the portal that may have better tape than blindly taking a kid from high school.

would have liked to see us go after huge position needs that we had kids ranked 400-650 in state, at big programs.

who is saying kelly or his staff won't do that? didn't he say last night, his 1st priority was putting his staff together, which (now) is mostly done? that is smart b/c CFB is currently a dead period. neither he nor his staff can make contact with these HS kids until Jan 14. i expect frank wilson will have this staff ready to go.

kelly talked about building a foundation with HS players. this cycle is an anomaly b/c of all the attrition, creating the need to add kids from the portal.

I assume Matthews is on our radar. I would hit the portal hard for anything that can provide depth. The offensive line is obviously a major area of weakness in terms of experienced talent.

I just wanted to understand our coaches approach to recruiting.

And know how we can fill the rest of the 2022 class.

Didn't mean to ruffle feathers.

Why can't we hit the uncommitted recruits still out there?

I'm sure the recruiting staff will target some select uncommited recruits. But CBK has been recruiting long enough to know that those relationships with high schoolers are forged months to years ahead of time. It's about how much value you're going to potentially get for time spent recruiting.

With TP players, most teams are in the same boat, these guys are just now becoming available so you're not so far behind as far as time investment.

Instead of a "band aid" I prefer to call it a "bridge". Sounds better.

But the portal is to get us to CBK's classes on the field. We did just play a game with 38 scholarship players. Even if we pulled 32 in recruiting this year, which we won't, the delay of getting them SEC-ready could be such a shite show that it ripples into future recruiting classes more than it had to. It will indeed affect us. Question is degrees. The thought is to minimize that effect by getting near-field-ready players from the portal with their eligibility running out just as the 2022 and 2023 classes are ready for big time.

We aren’t flipping anyone left who can start next year. So we have to hope to get kids from the portal at key positions. I promise you no matter who we get fans will expect 10 wins next year and come August people will be expecting the world.
