And engaging in bidding wars over a kid sends a bad message to the rest of the team.

Problem is if Ricks does not come to LSU, in the process he sabotaged our chance with the kid from California who had been committed for a long time.

Name the last California signee or commitment that stuck around.

That’s fine but don’t expect to win huge recruits without it

This is completely untrue.

Good, he shouldn’t. Either you want to be an LSU Tiger or you don’t. If you don’t then don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out.

ETA: And I don’t believe that LSU offered Ricks beans to play. He could be making good money and be apart of DBU. If he wants to go play for the inbreds because they’re paying more then so be it, I understand.

I agree with BK on this. If a kid wants you to engage in a bidding war, good chance he hits the portal for the same reason before he ever even becomes a starter

Exactly. Players with this mentality will be hitting the transfer portal with the quickness at the very first sign of adversity

I’m ok with LSU not trying to outspend the teams that are going absolutely crazy with NIL. Sure, it needs to be adequate for consistently high ranked classes. But rarely in sports does the most expensive team translate into being the best team. Just look at the Yankees, Dodgers or Man City/PSG.

This is true for the same reason that people are speculating that Ricks will choose Bama. Fat last minute NIL deal from Oregon.

Yes, I’m sure that’s true, but the question is whether LSU could have matched Oregon for Austin if they weren’t holding back money for Ricks. They need to get to a place like Bama did with Brown and Ricks where they have one guy willing to wait and see how things play out with the other before signing.

All you have to do is look at Texas A&M's locker room this past year and you'll know what buying mercenary players can do damage-wise to team chemistry.

The sudden obsession with Desmond Ricks around here is pathological. You don't even know what he's going to do, you don't know how good he'll be in college...you don't even know whether he's better than the kids we've already got.

And if we're about to close on Harris and Zy Alexander in the portal like I'm hearing, it's pretty likely Ricks wouldn't get on the field much next year anyway.
