why is that so hard to believe?

As I said, we already know that he had zero choice other than maybe skip college, right?

If you have an offer from AU and no offer from LSU, I don't call that much of a choice, do you?

Some say the offer was pulled Tuesday evening with that "hard and fast decision" made by Miles. Others say his offer was pulled a week prior to NSD. What's the consensus here?

Why does anyone have to be the bad guy in this? We constantly try to assign blame to spomeone in every situation. I don't care about assigning blame. I just think that all the facts don't fit.

But, who cares? I hope Benton does well and I am glad we got Randle, so everyone is happy. I'll be happiest, though, if Benton has a good year this year and then goes pro.

This is all good and I have nothing against Miles or Randle in this, but I do have a question: If Benton was going to Auburn, then why did he say he was going to LSU on Tuesday and why did Emmitt say what he said on the radio? None of that makes sense. If you want to go to Auburn then go. But, don't jerk everyone around.

Wonder what Tidefans and BOL is saying about this after their constant bashing of Miles and how classless he was in handling it (pot meet kettle)

Yea I wonder.... Also, I say a big F U to all the "Tiger" fans on this board who were saying they still love Miles but lost some respect for him b/c of the way he handled this. Everyone made their own assumption and had Les and Mr Randle as the assholes in the movie...

F U know it all frickers

I never bagged on Miles about it, just Emmitt Randle. It appears that what I read, heard and what was really going on may be suspect.

Some people are saying Benton and Reuben had a problem with each other, others are saying Emmitt engineered the whole thing. I don't remember Benton ever mentioning Auburn before the whole thing went down, however, I'll give E. Randle the benefit of the doubt for now.

Auburn is a better place for him anyway. Like it has been said before, everyone wins here. Good luck to Benton, except when he plays the real tigers!

First, RR's Dad said that he had a big problem with Benton getting an offer from LSU and stated that would affect RR's decision.
Which he explained. He even said that Reuben was going to LSU regardless. Therefore you can logically ignore this contrived "fact".

Second, LSU pulled Benton's offer.

According to both Emmitt Randle and Benton himself, this is what Benton wanted.

I think all parties involved acted pretty honorably.

WRONG! Benton visited Auburn over 2 weeks prior to NSD. If he received an offer (which I believe he did) than he had choices.

And he got his wish. Still think it sucks that we waited on this kid for the previous two years.

I still think he committed on his visit to AU 3 weeks prior to NSD, but who knows. I think it's pretty obvious now that he chose to go to the school where he could have the quickest impact and was just scared of the backlash he was going to receive if he didn't sign with LSU.

The rest is just posturing and speculation by folks trying to find comfort with the implications of the 2 facts that we do know.

true for some...but I, for one, have no problem with what went down. this was a case of bare-knuckle recruiting and everyone involved was using whatever leverage they had. Miles did exactly as he stated...made 'a hard fast' decision, one I'm sure he didn't want to make...but if faced with the same situation he would do it again. Nobody here wishes ill will on Benton...especially Miles.

Unfortunately if it took him 3 attempts to get qualified the odds of staying eligible are not likely.

Also, at 3 years out of high school he can enter draft.

It's quite possible that Benton will only be enrolled 1 semester for his entire college career.

I just realized this was a premium article. So, if you have a Rivals membership, you can read. And if you don't, oh well.

And for all we know, Benton may have told Miles Tuesday evening that he really wanted to go to Auburn.

As far as Emmitt Randle having a problem with Benton having a schollie, I'm fairly certain that's not the case. He said the problem was that on their visit they were told by the staff that Randle would compete with Toliver for the X or Z spot and that they found out the staff told Benton that he(Benton) would compete with Randle for the Y spot.

I think some folk got it made up in their mind that the Randle's wanted LSU the whole time and were just trying to get Benton out of the way and it sounds, from everything I've read, that any decision was made late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning and that the Randle's really were prepared to go somewheres else if Benton did sign with LSU. Some may disagree, but that's what I've taken from this tangled web that has been woven.

What we do know is that both Emmitt Randle and Benton both said that LSU isn't where Benton wanted to be.

"I'm not gonna say anything until the dead period because I'm a wuss and people might harrass me."

That sounds very Emmit Randle-ish
