Really depends on what you are looking to buy and how much you are looking to spend. What specific types of furniture?

Not sure where you live, but Hurwitz-Mintz in Metairie on Airline Hwy. is a good place to start. They handle some pretty nice high end furniture, but you are going to pay for what you get.

They do run sales a few times a year and that is likely the best time to do your shopping if you have the time to wait.

ETA: Ah, I see the salesman for "Frankie & Johnnies Furniture Store" downvoted me. He must be the "Special Man" everyone needs to see.

Ethan Allen is well made furniture, and it's priced accordingly.

La-Z-Boy was good - I bought a recliner from them 20 years ago, has a few years left in it.

Can't speak for the big chains, but I suspect their quality is not great.

Depending on how complex your needs you can find a local woodworker. Like myself ;)
Most of us have lumber/hardwood connections and the knowledge to make several pieces.

My only downfall is that it will take a little while, 2-3 months to fulfill a custom order like you are needing.

If you need everything, consider making a trip to North Carolina. Start Here

All are having severe supply chain issues so be prepared to wait for months or just settle for what is on the floor.

There’s a place on the north shore that my wife and I went to that’s sort of a flee market with different sections of the store showcasing different local made furniture. It isn’t cheap but it’s the best made furniture I ever saw. Can’t think of the name of the place.

They had a builder in the back left corner I remember specifically that had beautiful, solid pieces. Full dining room and bedroom sets.

For chairs/couches, the best of the best is Hancock and Moore. Runner up is Bradington Young, which is what we bought. Best way to buy is online from the volume dealer in Houston. Close to 1k/piece lower than BR prices for the same thing. They order and arrange white glove drop shipping. Can lookup company name if you're truly interested.

For finished wood type furniture (tables, dining chairs, desks, beds, etc) best of the best is handmade artisan that builds your preferred style. Big $$$$ depending on woods, finishes, and sizes.

I understand that no budget likely doesn't mean unlimited budget, but some of the previous replies would get you going in the right direction for what you are likely going for. But there are truly lifetime furniture pieces being made, just gonna cost you more than you may realize.

We have had good experiences with Cococo home out of North Carolina. They take design cues from restoration hardware and other trendy furniture makers but they use much higher quality materials/components and build in the USA.

Chitons.com out of Maine for hardwood. Great quality without being ridiculously heirloom expensive.

Vermont Woods Studios for a bit more expensive but heirloom quality.

Thomas Moser if you won the lottery.

we have some pottery barn stuff that is really solid compared to shite my wife bought on wayfair or picked up at ikea.

you can tell the moment you start assembling it whether its shite or not.

couches, chairs, etc. are harder to tell. they all look good when new but the crappy stuff starts to pull apart within a year.

my advice: dont scrimp on couches unless you're planning to update them in a few years.

eta i'm not advocating for $16,000 restoration hardware couches.

IKEA couches rock, unless you’re 300lb people. I’ve got several IKEA upholstered pieces, and they’re damn durable and every bit as attractive as much higher priced furniture. Removable slipcovers means I can wash and freshen as needed, and that all cushions are removable (unlike many more expensive sofas with fixed cushions). There are a bunch of third party manufacturers of replacement sofa covers for the main IKEA lines so you can get everything from velvet to corduroy to high end linen covers as your decor evolves.

Where I won’t skimp is non-upholstered furniture. Buy the best quality hardwood stuff you can afford: dining chairs, dining table, kitchen/bar stools, nightstands, benches, etc. Solid wood stuff where the quality shows.
Forgot to link these in my earlier post:

Buy once, cry once. People buy absolute garbage furniture from the big names and stores with showrooms...it’s a shame. Cardboard stapled to the back of particle board dressers, sold for $$$. No thanks.

I happen to agree... we ordered 2 sofas, 2 chairs and 2 ottomans from H&M, wasn't cheap but I plan on them lasting 30 years. We stayed in the Town and Country program and it really wasn't much more than trying to buy a crappy couch by comparison from a local place. Now the local places want crack prices for H&M, you have to order from out of state to get a deal.

I highly recommend Woodland Furniture in Woodland MS. Everything in my home is from them. I’ll typically shop Miskellys and D Noblin to find what I want, then call Woodland. I saved $1000 on Dining room set alone. It’s an old abandoned school with low overhead.

I started really getting into woodworking recently. It's actually quite shocking to me how much stuff I have is just crap quality wood. Recently repainted my sons crib from 5 years ago in anticipation for our daughter coming soon and couldn't believe we paid what we did for it. I know it's pricey, but actual hardwood with actual joinery is getting to be rare. Yet the furniture stores are trying to sell at the same prices with cheap brackets and staples holding everything together. It's not meant to last anymore.
