Yet the furniture stores are trying to sell at the same prices with cheap brackets and staples holding everything together. It's not meant to last anymore.
I agree. And the same with many appliances. They got away from the basics and started using more and more electronics and it's just more to break in the long run.
I use to get 15-20 years out of a washer and dryer set, now I'm lucky to get around 7-8 years before they need replacing.
I have a woodworking shop and have built a good bit of my furniture and good joinery does take more time than simply gluing and shooting staples in things, but it just doesn't hold up when done that way. Then the materials they use like particle board covered in a very thin veneer just makes for heavy, useless crap in the long run.

Go to Ohio for Amish made furniture.
North Carolina also has quality stuff.
If possible go the stores and spend some time at the shops rather than look online. The best places usually don't advertise.
My family has been buying from an Amish man in Ohio for years. My parents' have outfitted 2 houses with his stuff. Both of my children's bedrooms contain his stuff as well.
He doesn't have a website but info on his store can be found here:

I’m pretty impressed with Bernhardt. Bradington Young was mentioned and up there. La-z Boy is probably the best combination of affordable and well-made
