We had the opposite experience after Laura, had a Jamaican installer and he was in and out quickly. His truck looked like Sanford & son but install was good.

eatpie,
thank you for the feedback. This is something to consider when evaluating BBB recommendations.

We did RbA a few years ago. 14 double-hung windows replaced all of the original frames in our 40YO home. It ran us almost 40K. It was the "middle" quote we got out of 3 total, Pella being one of the others. The Pella folks gave us a quote of nearly $50K and that was before I had to remind them of the state-required tempered glass on a few of the windows (yes, their guy flat-out forgot to price that part in). I live in TX for reference, but really in any state you should check your codes to see what's required.
Expensive as hell, yes, and the finance options are shite and I hate paying it, but I can't say I've had any less than a stellar experience with their team (who got it done in 2 days) or the windows themselves. The biggest test so far has been this recent cold snap and we had no issues with draft or heat loss like we had with the original frames. And they look pretty nice. I feel like we got what we paid for.
And for reference our neighbors next door had 15 windows replaced on their home for half the price but less than six months after that they said they wished they'd have gone with someone more reputable (I didn't ask them who they went with).
So much of it's gonna depend on the team they send out, too. Hopefully when you're talking tens of thousands of dollars you can talk them into sending people who know what the frick they're doing.

Happy customer of Tommy's windows here.

I’ve been going through the same thing on a 3600 sq ft house. About 30 windows to replace.
Renewal by Anderson bid over $100,000
Window World bid less (about $37k) but they only do windows of specified dimensions. There were a few windows they could not replace.
Another company was nearly identical to Window World but promised they have a factory under construction that will be able to construct unique windows in about 6 months. If we bought now, they would continue to offer the discounted price.
Relief Windows was able to do all windows and bid around $34k.
Be ready for used car sales tactics such as the offer only being good by tonight, tomorrow, or 3 days. This is of course bullshite. Keep shopping. You can get someone to go back to your house later and get the same offer.
Most also offer lifetime warranties on the windows and labor/installation. If either is not offered or if the warranty is not transferrable, ask why…and then choose between companies that offer both warranties that are transferable.

Agreed. Relief Windows installed all double hung windows on my house and did a great job. Lifetime warranty. If I sling a rock with the mower and break a window , it gets replaced at no charge.

I believe I was out of pocket about $3000 for 15 windows, 2 were very large panes that captured a lot of that cost.

Bumping since this question gets asked frequently. I signed the contract with Relief Window this week.
for 15 double hung windows (7 with grid) for $13,180 after the 10% discount.
Someone is coming for the precision measurements, and then it’ll be 4-6 weeks before they’re ready. The rep said they can usually do up to 24 windows in a day.
I didn’t get a quote from window world since most people prefer the quality of installation of RW. I don’t want problems down the road.

I used Relief Windows to replace all(21) of the windows on my 55 yo house. All done in one day. A pleasure to do business with and did a great job on install. All windows come with a lifetime warranty.

I’m in north Louisiana and I got a quote this week for one entry carport door, one French patio door and one large window 72”x60” and my quote was just north of $15K. Ridiculous. Patio door was over 8k

They quoted my patio French door for $6,700. I said nope and went with my 15 windows for 13k instead. I’m with you. How can two doors be worth that much compared to the windows?

I went through a similar window replacement project a few years back, had to do about a dozen at once. At first I was tempted by all the big name flyers, but ended up getting more quotes from local companies too. What really helped me decide was talking to neighbors and seeing who actually stood behind their work for years later. Honestly, paying for quality installation is worth it, especially if you live somewhere that gets extreme temperature swings, drafty or leaky windows aren't fun in winter.
For my place, I wanted something that was made for our climate and easy on the energy bill. If you’re in Canada, check out Canadian Choice Windows. They’re well known for sturdy installs and windows actually designed for the harsh weather here.

Bought my own windows direct from the manufacturer here in Houston, had my contractor install for $80 per window. Had about 25 windows done. All double pane single hung alum frame.
Renewal will bend you over and insert deeply

You mind sharing who you went with and where you are located? I have the same issue with PW blowing seals on 18 double hung windows. Interested in just replacing the glass, and not the entire frame.

Depending on where you are, we used Lakeshore Windows and Doors in Covington, did a great job. Not cheap, nothing is now-a-days but they did everything they said they would and on time.

quote:I recently had to replace glass in two windows, both 48x96 where the lower window that raises is only 32" of the 96" height.
How much per window to reglase? I had a dude power wash my house several years ago and he broke the seals on about 15 windows.
It was going to cost me $468.00 + tax per window + delivery fee of $125, buying them at dealer cost (thanks to my brother, a distributor for NT Windows, but that's me putting them in. Instead, I had a glazer come out, measure and quote. $365 installed, including tax and delivery. The guy came out and he was done in under 30 minutes.

It's true. All of the big national brands spend an eye watering amount on marketing which of course is passed on to the consumer. RbA has the biggest marketing budget of them all.
* Used to be in marketing. RbA spent a boatload. Dwarfed every other client by a mile regardless of product/service.

I had an excellent experience with relief windows. All new windows and doors including a custom octagon window. They replaced any and all rotten rough framing and were in and out in a day. The sales pitch started a little aggressive but I was able to shut that down pretty quickly. After that it was smooth sailing and we love the new product and it has been a massive upgrade
