How big of a plot are you trying to mow?

My new favorite, since Honda left the market, is the Stihl brand of walk behinds. Built well, cut nice.

How long have you had it and which model?

quote:go electric. Should be fine with just one battery. They're not as powerful as gas so don't try chopping up trees, but not having to deal with gas or oil is worth it.
.25 acre

You mean self-propelled.

25 acre
I have a .32 acre lot, but after subtracting out everything I only mow about 4000 square feet. I purchased an 80v Kobalt self-propelled mower five years ago. The battery is good for three mowings. No problems. No oil. No gas. No spark plug, stuck float, gummed up carburetor, crank, or filter. All my tools like leaf blower, hedge trimmer, weed eater, they all work great. The only gas tools I have now are a pressure washer, chainsaw and generator, cans frankly, some of the portable power bricks look pretty damn promising.

Greenworks 60v (or 80v) push mower
Powerful and light (no need for self propel). Never have to fool with engine maintenance again. Stores vertically. LINK

I have an HRN and would like to find a clean, non-running HRX to fix up. I also have an $80 Craftman pawnshop pick for my fiancée to use, just the most basic kind of push mower but it's been a reliable little POS.

after my craftsman gas mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine finally died a couple years ago, I got the Lowes Kobalt 40v battery powered mower for our 1/4 acre lot and it was great. We now live on several acres but only ~1/2 acre of that has lawn and it's still enough but barely on one battery.

Find a used Honda HRX on Facebook marketplace and get it "fixed up."
Or if you have OT money, get a commercial Toro with a Honda engine. Model 22296 or Kawasaki engine Model 22298 and never buy another mower.

I have had it over a year now.
Here is the original thread I made. I've since moved and bought a ZYR, but I still use the Stihl on part of my property.

quote:They are too light. I have four small canvas bags of lead shot that I lay on top of the deck around the motor. This helps keep it down on the grass, resulting in a better cut without stragglers. Before I added the weight it was so light that it bounced around too much and caused uneven cuts and lots of stragglers.
Powerful and light

Toro 21 or 22" self propelled . Mine is 6yrs old running ethanol gas and starts every time.

Troy Built. I bought mine about 5 years ago. It has a 160 cc Honda engine. 22" cut. Front wheel self propel. Works great for what I have (small yard). The only issue is that the self propel is not that strong, but it's really not a big deal. Most of the newer self propels are rear wheel drive which I would assume would work better.
